Beware of GTI vr6. Actually any vr6

00 GTI vr6 chipped vs stock 02 cl-s

well we raced 4 times and he beat me all the time. All from a dead stop and he had terrible launches. I would get at least a car length a head at the green light but damn his 4th and 5th gears are strong!!!!!!

walks right through me like I'm a parked car

I have never been able to beat the damn vr6.

Now he takes me about a good 2 car lengths when i'm around 85-90 mph.

Do you guys think if I get I/H/Res/plugs/E

I could take him?

What is a good mod for high end power because our cars are really weak in that department?

Get a CAI and Headers and try again.. And, keep the race to a 100 MPH.

If the CLS is still struggling, hopefully you can get the RES in 2 weeks.

is the vr6 turboed? Is it manual or auto? If it's just chipped without a turbo you will walk by him with i/h/e/res/mm2/plugs like he was standing in mud. You will be pushing nearly 315 hp and nearly 270 ft/lbs of torque.

i don't think the vr6's are turboed.

i think only the 1.8t and the tdi are turboed.

Heh, I went to the 8th mile track and raced a vr6 3 times. All he had was a CAI. He beat me every time by VERY little, like only half a car length. Those buggers are fast. I'm going to try to find those time slips and post them.

Guys,

It is no rocket science. the CLS is WAY heavier than a little GTI... When you calculate the power/weight ratio, the GTI will win every time...

My friend has that car (manual GTI VR6) with an intake and I have never had a problem beating him. We race from stop and rolling and I always win. I think a couple times I launched bad and he came out in front but I caught up to him. I used to beat him even when my CL was stock and he is a good racer. I mean that car is pretty quick but you should be able to take him. I guess maybe if it is turboed you might have a problem (did they make a turbo vr6???).

gti is like .57

They never made a turbo VR6. Its either a 1.8l turbo, or the 168hp VR6. Both cars should lose to a CL-S. Make sure traction control is off.

I respectfully disagree... a co-worker has a Vr6 unmodded and I can whoop him. I mean three to five car lengths. I'm stock.

I beat one VR6 at the track with no problem. He ran high 15 low 16 all nite. I think he told his car is chipped (not so sure though, it's been a while).

Does anyone know what a chipped VR6 is supposed to run? Tell him to come to South FL, I'll race him

well i've heard stories on both boards acura-cl and superhonda.org

I posted a thread very similar to this on the superhonda.org board when i had my accord v6.

this is my first gti race but this is my 5th vr6 ive raced and the outcome has all been the same. I get the jump but when the enemy is in 4th and 5th gear its all over.

I just want to know how the hell do those things have so much power on the higher end of the powerband? Its almost as if they were like turbo cars. But WE ALL SHOULD KNOW VR6 ARE NORMALY ASSPIRATED.

The GTI vr6 i raced was a manual, chipped, intake and exhaust and NOTHING ELSE. He is a good friend of mine and he just got the car recently.

I am going to go check my IMRC actuator now...

hmmm , you should be really strong through 3rd (110mph) I'm surprised he can walk off & leave you. His VW should have more closely spaced 4th & 5th but still only 174hp & 181lb-ft. with
about a 3100curb weight that's what , a 400lb advantage ??

The new 1.8L Turbo is 180hp & 175lb-ft.(at 1950rpms!) BUT that motor can generate 225+hp easy with minor mods.

A 200+hp 24v VR6 is due for late 2003.

The chip on a VR6 wouldn't make much of a difference. It would only advance the spark timing to compensate for higher octane gas. If it was a chipped 1.8t(urbo) with the boost up that would make sense.

Feel free to correct me.

It might be the new vr6 that produces 201 hp. and 206 lb. ft torque, but I still think the type-s should take it...

Stock VR6s aren't that fast but they do have better gearing than the CL/CL-S. Top gear acceleration is very good.

Chipped VR6

www.vwvortex.com is a good VW site.

From my understanding, a chipped VR6 doesn't have too much more power than a stock VR6- since the car is just a n/a 6 cylinder. The chipped 1.8T would have significant gains over the stock 1.8T (like 40+ horses, depending on the chip) since they kick the bar of the turbo up a few notches.

No doubt that is a big power robber! I had mine fixed last summer and I think it's not working again. I guess I need to check again.

I've raced my friends Corrado SLC VR6...the fastest of the VR6 variants, and our GS-R would walk on it by a length by the time we shut down at 100. The corrado had a Neuspeed P-flow, euro throttle body and an autothority chip. GS-R had a dirty stock filter on it, 4-1s and an SP exhaust on it. And the GS-R has been beat by CL-S'.

But stock versus stock the CL-S will kill a VR6. 0-60 and top speed. Well to 100, thats when we both shut it down. We're both scared little guys...

Guys,

I traded my 99 GTI VR6 Ginster Yellow with K&N, chipped, short shift kit and H&R coilovers. It had an awfull lot of torque and not much weight which made it very hard to get a good launch. I doubt it is faster than the Cls.

Puerto Rico

Their is a guy here, that runs neck to neck with many moded VR's. So Its more of a competitive race, than a walk in the park for the VR models.

Hey you guys hava 260 freeking hp, your car can take a stock VR6 GTI!!!

Anyway, good luck on the street, because most VR's are not stock

I raced a modded GTI, and we were even till about 70. This was when I was stock and had 3 people in my car. I raced a VR6 last weekend and killed him. The little fucker had nuts though...we raced about 5 times with me beating him to 70 by 2 cars everytime.
