Best Intake for 30 CLS 6MT?

Which brand gives the best HP gains? This may be the only performance mod I do... I've searched "intake", "cold air intake", "best cold air intake", and about 10 other phrases searching for some sort of general consensus and I either get too many, too few or results that are too vague. Help a newbie out... PLEASE?!

Comptech Icebox for looks,

AEM CAI for sound

They both are pretty close at resulting the same horsepower

Icebox is for stock looking, AEM is for a mean growl every time you punch it.

I have a Injen cold air. Yes its for ze auto but has the 6 inch or so extension in. The nice thing about it is that when it gets down into the bumper, it curves forward so that its harder to plug the thing if i where to go thru some high water.

As for sound, well my exhaust takes over that so I cant hear the intake until higher rpm's. But I bet its going to be the same as stic2it...

Comptech and AEM make the same horsepower! Comptech pretty much looks like stock has a very slight growl under throttle. The AEM looks very aftermarket under the hood and can be heard without a probally, especially when you hit VTECH.

Do you have dyno proof? Every dyno I have seen has given comptech a slight edge

^^^ Don't you constantly have to clean the lint out of that thing?

I'd go with AEM or Injen simply because the sound is just as much fun as the HP gain.

now wat about a bypass valve? i think thats the most important thing about a CAI because it can ruin the engine if water does somehow get into it. Do the AEM come with a bypass valve? if not where would i get one?

I would not get a bypass valve. The AEM ones are crap. If you are that worried about water go with the Comptech.

I have an AEM and since I don't drive through 12" deep puddles, I don't worry about water.

I dont drive through puddles either but, the weather out here in MA is crap, crazy snow storms and crazy rain, so is there a chance of any water getting into the AEM one?

I like Ross' setup. I'm also an Injen fan.

I was joking! Actually when I had the drop-in K&N and no resonator I thought about doing that, I was just too lazy to take the bumper off to (mount it).

i agree with the K&N dropin lower resonator removal...but you could buy the lower air horn from comptech for about 20$ or they sell similar stuff at autozone/pep boys then with the money you saved add the crank pulley or SS auto chrome headers

My brother had this Acura Cold Air Intake. Personally, I love the AEM. There are really a lot of CAIs these days. It’s getting quite hard to choose. I’m also trying to figure out which among all those CAIs is really the best.

I'm picking up an AEM cold air intake with a K&N cone filter instead of the AEM one, should do a little better for MPG and power.

So what's the price range on these intakes? I'm favoring AEM. AEM is the one that makes the growling louder right? Sorry I'm a newbie. I really need as much tips from everbody. I appreciate it.

hell yes.
+1 on that. i had that done to my older car too (also using dryer hose) and it probably gave me more gain than an short ram intake.

CAI still beats the gains from a short ram.

I think it's a nice, cheap setup and it works. But, personally, I would save for the Icebox.

I had both the AEM and Icebox. I hated the AEM. Everything from the sound of it on cold starts, to the stem breaking, to my run in with some water.

I 100% recommend the Icebox to anyone that's looking for an intake.

well yeah, the warm air intake (as i like to call it) isnt as effective as a cold air intake. but you know, when youre poor, you gotta be creative :p

Yes and no. Being creative is good. As long as it doesn't eat up money that you could have spent on what you really want.
