Best CL exhaust?

Was thinking of upgrading exhaust on my 01 CL. Saw an accord V6 coupe with a really large system and it was a real loud buzz bomb. I like good sound but not loud sound and I don't want to be embarrased or get a headache driving it.

Is there a system that is a little louder than stock but not noticable to the other cars on the road?

There are conflicting reports as to whether the HKS or the Comptech exhaust sounds deeper or louder.

get the Comptech exhaust..I have this setup and it's not overly powerful or annoying, it's just a litte more rumble than stock, but hardly noticeable from outside.

i bought the 5 Zigen axle back mufflers. Sounds good and you can also purchase silencers if it's too loud for you. I leave them out because it sound sooooo sweetttttt!!!

Is a hardly noticeable difference really worth $650?

Well, I'm asking that question of the wrong person, moneyman.

How about letting us 1st gens know what the best sounding exhaust is. I want to have a nice looking exhaust but with the sound of the Comptechs. I want a muff soon but everytime i try to decide and then right when im about to pick what i like the best i hear from someone "no man, are you tryin to sound like a civic or something" so im stuck. Any bit of help would be great.

I used to think that too... that is until I broke down and got the Comptech exhausts. Not only is the sound/tone itself almost worth it, but there is a noticeable difference in feel as well. Post Comptech exhausts (albeit with headers and CAI) I feel a new sweet spot between 3000-4000 RPM. I definitely should have done it sooner

For bigger pipes one would expect bigger sound, but supposedly they aren't as loud as the Comptechs.

What's your opinion, Fotis? You getting $500 worth of sound out of those pipes?

I don't particularly care for the sound of the HKS. The Comptech's produce a nice, deep, V8-like rumble...but they can be a bit loud for some. The HKS sounds way more raspy to me.

The HKS pipes are bigger, but the Comptech pipes are thicker in construction.

I dunno bout that mike... between the HKS and the Comptechs... I think the HKS has a better note and it's not as loud either.

Yer right, John...it's all a matter of taste. Whichever you choose, it looks and sounds WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the stockers.

Yep.. HKS makes the one exhaust part that fits all three. Be forewarned cause they were designed for the Accord, which is why they have that "draggin on the floor" look

BlxMjx posted WAVs of his HKS exhaust once. It sounded aight, but you really can't tell exhaust by what is recorded on a microphone. Nothing sounds the way it does in real life on a microphone.

What we need is two people, one with each type of exaust, to be at the same place and compare that way.
