Before/After pics- painted exhaust pipe

Have you ever been driving behind a newer CL/TL/Accord and notice how obvious the exhaust pipe is due to the copper color? I have, so I thought I'd try something. $4.00 in material and 10 minutes later, this is how it turned out:

It was still a little wet when this last shot was taken. Album of the three shots is at:

There's plenty of room. No jack needed, just slide right under!

Hay that's the first thing i did when i first got my CL-S. I bought a high temp flat black spray paint spray all the exhaust tubing to prevent rusting coloration. My paint really matches to the color of the muffler.... Good job though!

I bought that paint at the almighty Walmart but I'm sure you can get it at any other big retail outlet. It is oil based so I bought that foam brush for 25 cents. Just throw it away afterwards and you don't have to hassle cleaning it.

My car is not lowered yet. I ordered the H&R OE springs two weeks ago and the pinheads didn't have them in stock (they gave me the impression they did have them when I placed the order). I'm just waiting for them to get the springs to ship to me. I'm going to try the install myself (I can hear Jens laughing now) so that's going to extend things even longer. In hindsight, the $25 I saved by ordering from a place other than Snook's was probably not worth it since I want them *now*.

If you've lowered yours already, I'm not sure if you'll have enough room. Guess it depends on how much you've had to eat. (Sorry, it's getting late...) No seriously, just try it. If you're thin enough, you'll fit.

Thank you. Coincidently, yesterday I was peering under my car and I was dismayed to see that very same discoloration on my pipes. I'm going to take your idea and use it as soon as I can. A question. Have you noticed any odor when driving around from the paint?
(Also, has anybody noted if the paint on the mufflers themselves is peeling? Mine is. )

The only bad thing from this is we will now probably see "RUST-OLEUM" in some of the already ludicrous signatures posted by some members.

I just painted them yesterday afternoon and did notice a little odor after driving last night. The paint says it takes 24 hours to fully dry so it was probably a little wet when I drove it. I'm sure any odor will be completely gone in a day or so after it dries. That paint is also available in a spray can and that would probably give a smoother finish. I was too lazy to mask everything off to spray it though.

“The only bad thing from this is we will now probably see "RUST-OLEUM" in some of the already ludicrous signatures posted by some members.” Let’s hope not!! The OE paint on my mufflers seems to be holding for now (but the car is new).

Okay, here's the wider-angle shot. I took a shot from a further distance but you couldn't really see anything which, I guess, shows this exercise was successful (or that I need better lighting). Five coats of Zaino polish has turned the car into a virtual mirror so you get a nice panoramic shot of the street, including our neighbor's little pink house. You can also see the mufflers are almost level now thanks to somebody's tip of using a hose clamp to pull up the right side.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but there is a service bulletin for this. The dealer will paint your pipes for free. Jens said this I think...

Mr Tinman, let me know if you want a hand installing those springs. It's really easy, as long as your back seat doesn't resist too much (mine was very stubborn).

Thanks Aaron, I appreciate the offer!! I bought the CL Service Manual for this specific mod so I'm hoping I can just take my time and plow through it step-by-step. I'll be in contact if I run into a bind or I get the springs the day before the meet (I'd like to have them in for it). I just wish they'd hurry up and ship my springs! Thanks again.

Thanks for the heads-up on that Technique. I did a quick search and think I found the thread you were referring to. Jens said the muffler paint is covered under a bulletin but that corrosion on the pipe is probably not.

Al Uminum: Sounds like you might want to talk to your dealer about getting your mufflers painted.

Thanks. Yup I've did email Jens about the mufflers peeling and he confirmed the bulletin about the peeling. But alas he also said that the steel pipes would rust due to the elements. I thought that steel isn't supposed to rust but nothings perfect.
