Arrow battery relocation kit

Went out today to pick up a battery relocation kit and none of the automotive stores around here have them. They all have the black plastic boxes for the batteries and one was able to sell me the cable, but no one in my town would crimp the connectors for me. Any one else have this issue? Any one got a reliable and inexpensive web site for one? Thank you all in advance. Clinton

I did mine myself, using all the stock parts. It turned out fairly well.

so does this mean you don't have a battery under the hood? or do you have 2 batteries?

I believe he doesn't have one under his hood because of the Turbo kit. Also the reason I want to move mine except Supercharger not Turbo. I did search "battery relocation" and saw where one member bought a holder off of e-bay that acutually fit in the cubby hole on the left side. I would have to assume that it would only fit the r-51 battery. Summit Racing has some kits but the price is too high.

Any one know of a good site for this kit? I to would also like to see pic or even a diy. Thanks

summitracing.com sells a bunch of kits.

as for the wiring? what do you mean? you just need a good monkey wrench to crimp the connectors to the wire. you don't need massive wiring.

To relocate the battery to the trunk is a work intensive mod. Took me the better part of 2 days and some bucks. I chose the eddiemarine battery box that is made for the optima battery. You don't have to go this extravegant, sometimes I overkill.

http://www.eddiemarine.com/cart/cata...oxes%2FCharger

I took out the rear seat, door sill and worked the power line and ground line from the trunk to the engine compartment. I also grounded the battery to the trunk in 4 or 5 different places and also grounded it in 4 places in the engine compartment as well. Overkill? Who knows, I can tell you this, I have no electrical issues with all the electronics. Be prepared to sweat as it's a tedious project and you'll find yourself running to the store several times before your done.

These were taken right before I was truely finished, The black plastic tray that goes behind the battery has been cut and fitted and looks great. It's that black plastic tray that is already there that needs to be dremmeled.

It's a great mod for FI cars, even the SC'd cars that utilize that small 51r battery that always seems to fail, and we all know what a pain it is to change that one.

he's right, the process sucks. i was going to do it with this battery, but it only weighs 15 lbs, so i'm i left it in the engine bay w/ custom mounting tray.

right now i have the battery you see in the box mounted w/ the tray in the 2nd pic, but in the location of the stock battery.

lol @ cardboard. shame you have to use a dry-cell battery if you want to relocate to trunk. don't they just have a sealed box with like a place for a tube to vent to outside? like a blowdown kit for nitrous except for battery gas?

Any 4 gauge wiring kit will work for relocating the battery. Any car audio/big box store will have the proper wiring that you need as well as easy to crimp connectors.

i'm not planning on doing FI on the car, but i was thinking about relocating the battery in the trunk to get a better weight distribution
(as the CL is 63 F / 37 R ).

i didn't know there were so many here that did it or in the process of (well actually, i thought nobody had it done)

it's nice to see different setups

couldn't this be wired by going under the car and coming up through the trunk? What length of cable did you all end up buying? Where did you all end up grounding the battery? Did every use just 4 guage - is a higher guage just overkill or what? Sorry for all the questions, but I want to be as informed as possible when I go to do this. Thanks again you all. Clinton

what do you all think - OPTIMA® red or yellow. I see ThinJim went with the marine verision (blue). Pros and cons. Do I just stay with the battery I got and get a box that is vented and same some money. God, this shouldn't be this difficult....lol

higher guage=skinner, so its not really an overkill but more like being cheap

and its not diffcult if you would spend the time to search through this forum or better yet just google it

Bobby - thank you for pointing out my mistake in associating higher guage with thicker wire. I obviously was refering to using a thicker / low guage wire.

As for spend the time to search this forum, I did search under "battery relocation". This generated 18 post, including mine. None of which were a diy or really gave any light to the questions I was asking. Optima's web site really didn't provide the answers also. May be you could assist me with the answers to my questions, diy, and additional pics rather than submitting the standard "why don't you search" post.

Once again thank you and to all others thank you to in advance. Clinton

I know it's an old ass thread but has anyone relocated the battery to the jack side of the trunk? seems to me that given the fact that my fat ass sits on the left of the car, relocating the battery to the right side of the trunk would give better weight distro.

Plus thats the side BMW mounts their's on in the trunk, and they have always been anal about weight distribution.

I have not seen anyone do it. I assume mainly due to the fact that it is more practical to leave the jack in it factory loction than try to relocated it also. As for me, the weight ratio was not a big concern as our car will never have a good front to rear ratio. Some may say that every little bit helps but I just not that worried about it. Plus I ended up with a five gallon fuel cell on the other side so I gues that makes me about even....lol. Clinton

Sorry to bring this thread back.. But what size battery is that?? Full size optima? I'm looking for 51R mounting kit for inside the car... something that will look really nice.

I would just buy a oddyssey or braille light weight battery and they both provide mounting trays to mount upright or on its side.

It's important that those of you who want to relocate the battery think carefully about the fact: you have more resistance in the pathway of you battery/alternator now since u're going to the trunk and back. So if you got light dimming problems now they will likely worsen, and for those who love their high powered audio, remember

The lower the Gauge the THICKER the wire = LESS resistance.. So going with thick wiring will greatly help.

However this adds weight so if you're doing the mod for weight reduction it's not the best of news.

Just so u kno fellas

Dont run anything smaller then 1/0 gauge wire. And just make sure that the cable you get is quality.

From left to right - Knukonceptz Kolossus Kable 1/0 gauge, Raptor 1/0 gauge, Streetwires 4 gauge, American Accessories 4 gauge.

As you can tell, the Raptor 1/0 gauge has a very thick jacket on it, but the wiring itself is not much larger then the Streetwires 4 gauge. So choose wisely.

I think i will just mount my battery in stock location since it will only weigh 11 lbs i dont think its worth the hassle of relocating. Screw running more wires.
