Attn: Important News For Cl Owners

i JUST READ THAT ACURA MIGHT BEING DISCONTUNING THE CL IN 2004. I JUST CALL THE ACURA DEALERSHIP, I AM CLOSE TO THE PERSON WHO SOLD ME MY CAR AND HE SAID THEIR IS A 75% CHANCE THEY WILL CANCELLED THE CL INSTEAD OF REDESIGNING IT. BUT THE TL WILL REDESIGN TL WILL BE ON SALE IN THE MIDDLE OF SEPTEMBER. CHECK OUT THE NEW TL SPECS. 280HP AND 3.4L. KIND OF POWERFUL. THERE IS NO PICTURES BUT HE TOLD ME SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT 20S ON IT.

Resale

I guess my 6spd will hold its value pretty darn good... a 'rare' model all of a sudden!

Especially considering they only sold 652 last month!!

I've heard they were canceling the CL a couple times before...it might happen but for some reason, I doubt it. Acura isn't going to cancel the CL and leave a hole in their lineup right when midsized coupes are picking up steam. If anything, they'll probably just rename it something stupid like the CSX or whatnot.
What would be nice is if they abandon the nonsensical letters and go back to something like the Vigor or Legend. Man! The return of the Legend coupe would probably make me pass out (and when I came to, I would be on my way to the dealership to get on a waiting list)

no i'm not, i'm not cussing and purposely ragging on other people. if anything everyone on acura-cl i consider to be cool only because we all share the same interest, no matter if we have a different opinion about a part, a mod, or just weather or not this mod is better than this one, we all don't purposely cuss at or rag on other people.

typeR was just sayin it's courteous to use lower case that's all. if you can't take criticism then none of us can help you and you should find another forum.

Isn't kind of strange that there is really no information out from Acura on the CL. If Acura let on now that the CL is discontinued, it could cause a rash of trade in's. If that announcement is ever made, you could kiss off some value. Usually every time there's a new body change, the old body is worth less. It will be interesting to see what happens.

i think what will happen is the cl will probably get discontinued, i've heard of that online and from a few people at dealerships as well. but if anything they will have to come back with a new coupe in the 25-40K price range to compete with the g35 and other cars that are in that category.

maybe in the redesign of the tl we'll see a new tl coupe? just like they have the g35 coupe and sedan.

I don't think it's strange at all. Acura/Honda is one of the most secretive companies out there... whether it's a new model or a discontinue. The TSX was a big exception b/c once Acura announced it was based on the Euro Accord... it wasn't hard to figure out what it looked like. Take the CL for example... 2001 CL released in March of 2000. We had heard about it in late 1999, but no one knew nothing about it until Acura released sketches weeks before it debuted the car in January at the auto shows. This is just how they operate.

But you are right about the trade-ins. Visit any Subaru board to see how many WRX's are for sale now that the STi is coming to America. Even more are for sale b/c they redesigned the whole Impreza line again....

True...resale would definitely suffer (except maybe the 6sp). But it's worth it if Acura gives us something to compete with the G35 coupe. And with Acura's record for quality over Infiniti...it would more than rock.

the better dealerships are told information sometimes.

but for the most part, acura tries not to leak out too much info, because if everyone knew that next year there is a new and improved acura that will be better than the current one for the same price, who's gonna buy the current one then?

Name change might make sense. Try to get it thought of as between RSX and NSX? Maybe CLX or CSX.. They will never give a heads up about a line being stopped, that would kill New car sales. YMMV

Yeah, I'm thinking CLX or something. That's the way Acura is going with the names...But why can't they go back to names that sorta meant something. It seems like other car companies are digging into their heritage or doing the retro thing. Why can't we see a Legend coupe (even though the TL/CL was the replacement for the Vigor). I think the public would take notice if the Legend returned. "I remember those. They were great cars." That sort of thing. Not "WTF is a CLX?"

Acuras are in those categories as style and power. That is one of acuras trade marks. Less price for a great car. We have different luxury, standard class(ex; cl,tl,3 serise, 5 serise, c class, e class, clk class g35, i35) and upper class luxury(rl, 7 serise, s class, sl class cl class, q45.) It just acuras will always be cheaper.

Here is a hypothetical problem in value with the 6-Speed. First don't flame me because I love the 6 Speed. I can't drive one because of a hip problem. Fact #1-People buy more automatic CL's. The dealer's move them faster. There were a number of 6 Speeds at my dealership when they first came out that they had for a long time because people prefered the automatics. Shit, here it comes...there is a possiblity that the 6 Speeds could be worth less. Let's face it, they're for a 40+ market. Ok, Fact #2-The 6 Speed makes the CL a more performance oriented vehicle. But, it would have to be considered a rare car and a collector. You might not see that value increase now, but maybe as a classic down the road. I personally, don't think this will happen. Sadly, I feel the first hypothesis would happen. I hope I'm wrong. Please add your own hypothsesis.
