Here is a chance to "try out" AUTOCROSSING for cheap. Read the below post from a South Jersey Car Club. I signed up, and dragged my kid into the mix as well.

Novice School / Test and Tune:

SJR will be holding their annual Novice School / Test and Tune event on
Saturday,
4/16/2005 at Atco. If you have been thinking of trying autocrossing, this is
your chance to find out what it is all about! And, following the 4/16 event is
a
regular points event on 4/17/2005, at which you can practice your new found
skills.

We are trying a new format this year, so please read on for details.

The purpose of our Novice School / Test and Tune event is not only to introduce
novices to the sport of autocrossing, but to provide a venue for those with some
experience to practice basic techniques and / or dial in their cars.
Instructors
will be available for anyone who wants one, but non-instructed runs are also
permitted. In addition, a limited number of loaner helmets will be available,
so
all you need to bring is yourself and your car!

The course will be a simple one, and will contain basic autocross elements such
as a slalom, a decreasing or increasing radius turn and a skid pad. If you are
interested in instruction, you will be assigned to an instructor, and that same
instructor will be available to you throughout the event.

This event will consist of two sessions – one in the morning and one in the
afternoon.

Cost will be $25 for one session or $40 for both. There is no additional charge
for instruction.

We will be limiting the entries for each session to approximately 30 cars each.
While we will be taking walk-ins until our limit is reached, pre-registration is
highly recommended to secure a spot. You can pre-register for this event here:

<http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=2966>

Because we have an entry cap on this event, if you need to cancel, please send
an email message to the event registrar (huntg@sinbadco.com).

NOTE: If you have pre-registered, you must check at least 15 minutes before
registration closes for your session. Otherwise, we will assume that you are
not
able to make it, and will open up your spot to anyone who is waiting for one.

For the morning session:

Gates will open at 7:30 AM
Course opens for walking at 8:00
Registration and tech will open at 8:00, and will close at 9:00 AM
A novice introduction will be held from 9:00 – 9:15
First car off at 9:30
We will run until approximately 12:00

For the afternoon session:

Course opens for walking at approx 12:00
Registration and tech will open at 12:00, and will close at 12:45
A second novice introduction will be held from 12:45 – 1:00, depending on
interest
First car off at 1:15
We will run until approximately 3:45

If there is time, we will run fun runs after the afternoon session completes.
