Apexi V tec controller

There is some controversy on whether the apexi's effects work long term or if the computer overrides these changes. You can use it on an 01 CL-S and it does allow for some slight tuning of the a/f ratios as well as the vtec engagement. It also lets you see certain engine & adjustment readings.
I would highly recommend getting a boomslang harness if you do decide to get one, makes installation a breeze and helps tremendously if you need to remove it for whatever reason.

I have the apexi neo which is pretty much the same thing and i think its a necessity for making power. I gained 17 whp off my tune, and i only had cai, headers, and spacer. I was running really rich when i first came in and with the neo the tuner just pulled fuel in different spots of the a/f curve to make it run more lean. Also about the cars stock ecu over taking the tune in the long run is not something i had a problem with. I did a touch up and the numbers were almost the same as the day i got it tuned. I dont know what your plans are for this car, but you can have all the boltons in the world, but unless you tune for a/f you will never see the full potential. Vtech was set to engage at 4800, i did not want to go any lower just in case of cels.
