Anyone using 245/45/17 meats?

Greets!

I replaced my stock wheels & 205/60/16's long ago with CEC/Antera 17x7.5" Rims (+45mm offset) & 225/45/17's.

When I lowered the car (Tein SS) I had rubbing, and adjusted it a few times so that now it doesn't bottom out or rub very often (only for extreme road deviations).

I'm interested in putting bigger rubber on next time I change the tires: 245/45/17's are an exact match for the stock 205/60/16's in circumference (see: http://pw1.netcom.com/~sgalaba/tiresize.htm), but I'm suspect they won't fit without "rolling the fenders" on my baby.

I've a few questions from the community regarding this:

1. Will 245's fit on 7.5" width rims?
2. Has anyone put 245's on a 99-03 TL yet, and do they fit?
3. Does this absolutely require "rolling the fenders"?
4. What exactly is "rolling the fenders" and how do I do it?
5. I have the fender-well trim on my TL - will I need to remove it to "roll the fenders"?

Thanks very much for any assistance you can provide!!

Jay

I'm only going to address "some" of your questions:

1. Will 245's fit on 7.5" width rims?

Depending on the tire make and model, it will fit on the 7.5" wide rim. Personally, I’d prefer to have a 245/45-17 on an 8” wide rim, but that is a preference, not a requirement. But each make and model of tire has slightly different requirements. When you chose the EXACT tire you are going to use, check Tire Rack or other site and see if the recommended minimum rim width is > 7.5 inches.

2. Has anyone put 245's on a 99-03 TL yet, and do they fit?

There were actually some people over on the acura-tl.com forum that had put 245/45-17 on the 6.5" wide stock TL-S rims (I personally thought this was: ) As to what fit means -- I'm not sure what that means. (People do all kinds of experimenting…)

Note: you can have one tire that will fit perfectly and another that isn’t even close – both with the same 245/45-17 designations on them.

For example, just because a tire says it's a 245/45-17, doesn't mean that the tire XXX will have the same section width, tread width, revs/mile, ability to fit on the rim, and other specs as tire YYY (EVEN THOUGH BOTH ARE 245/45-17). If you don't believe me, look at all the tires on Tire Rack in a given size and check all of the specs for a given size -- and that will only give you part of the picture.

3. Does this absolutely require "rolling the fenders"?

Depends...

4. What exactly is "rolling the fenders" and how do I do it?

Well, here is a link to someone rolling their fender with a baseball bat: http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...rticle_id=3511

Thank-you for the information, Eric and TypeR!

Now I understand what rolling the fenders means - I may do it now with my 225's...

The tires I'm considering are Kumho 711's and 712's. I checked out the specs on TireRack.com as per your advice, and found the rim size range and ideal rim size to be 7.5"-9" and 8" respectively. Sounds like it may work, but I guess I need to hear from someone who has tried this on their vehicle and whether it worked for them or not...

TypeR - what vehicle do you have? Do you have any rubbing?

Cheers!

Jay
