I dunno if it will look ghetto or good. I bought some glossy spray paint, and I want to paint it black. Do you think it will stay on? I think if it did, the stocks will look good black imo.

Will not stay on...

As soon as some hot brake dust/grease gets on there it'll peel that paint like an orange.

They should be powder-coated only.

You think he'll be the first one to try & paint his wheels with regular paint?

By all means, go to it. I hope you have a spare set of rims laying around for after those get ruined...

I am the powder coating guru here, I think.

Been doing it for 15 years, and picked up a few patents along the way.

I have two words for you Jomolie: Uh oH!

you do not have to power coat rims. when you buy wheels or shit... even factory wheels like the 03 rims... they are PAINTED.

they are painted with wheel paint.

power coating may be ideal, yes, but its not the only way to do it.

find some quality wheel paint and as long as you prep the wheel properly u CAN paint it.

There's probably a trick to doing it right...

But Soopa's got a point, prep is the key, maybe special($$$) paint...

Don't we have any painter guys on this freakin board...???

No.

Just no.

Sunnyside in NH has a set of Chrome 02 CL wheels though...I heard $800 for the 4....

I saw a set in MD when I was down there. Are they all custom? Sunnyside said that they sent them out to be chromed. It seems like a good deal, a new wheel is usually $350+

Should I grab them? Even though I have an 03' I still like the 01-02 wheels.

Soopa: You are correct that liquid solvent based wheel coatings are still used. But usually only at automakers like KIA and the like.

Powder coatings are far more durable, cure to a higher film build thickness and are more chemically resistant, especially salt, than liquid coatings.

On road wheels, 95% of the industry powder coats aluminum rims, at least. Cars that wear hubcaps are probably painted with a liquid paint in a dip tank.
