Anyone thought of why CT is now making 6 speed parts?

Would it be feasible for Comptech to make aftermarket parts for the 6 speed CL, when its going to be discontinued? Parts being the Supercharger, icebox, lightwieght clutch, etc...

I think there are 3 possibilites:

1) The CL is not dying (very very unlikely)
2) The new TL will have a very similiar setup to the CL-6 with which these CT parts can be used
3) The TSX-S will have the CL-6 setup

Either way, Comptech HAS to have inside info on Acura/Honda. It doesnt make sense to make all these parts, get them carb certified, etc, when number 1 above is almost a certainty.

Any thoughts?

Re: Anyone thought of why CT is now making 6 speed parts?

Well, they are also marketing it to the almost 3k 6-speed CL-S' that have been sold.. almost all of which were purchased by enthusiasts.. so not a market they want to ignore. Also keep in mind that the big stuff like the headers, S/C and Icebox require minor changes between the auto and manual.. so why not make those changes and target both manual and auto setups?

As for your points:

1) I agree with you here... it's probably done.
2) Not sure about this. If the new TL is anything like the new Accord... you can't even replace the headers b/c it's a totally different setup.
3) This one is probably more likely then the TL point. The TSX-S will probably be similar to the CLS-6 config.

Id have to say that of the 2700 Type S 6 speeds. 150 will buy the icebox, 100 will buy the headers, 25-30 will buy the S/C. And i think those are high and still arent that great of a market. Something feels a little off.

OK.. even with those numbers.... they will probably make tens of thousands of dollars... possibly more.... all by making very small changes that may cost a few hundred per item. Makes perfect sense to me.

i think the bottom line is that most of the parts are shared between the cl, cl-s auto, tl, tl-s and 6 gen accord so i think they are safe. clutch and fly wheels are fairly easy designs and im pretty sure comptech will charge an arm and a leg to make sure they make a good profit from them even if they sell 1 or 2...

I've read that the TSX will have the same exact manual tranny as the CL-S.

Yes, i was just thinking that the CL-S 6sp market is so small, i think there has to be something new coming around that will closely compare to the CL-S 6sp setup. Thats my point.

i think your numbers are off, they probably sell that much stuff just to dealerships nationwide for their demo vehicles

It is feasible for CT to make parts for the 6spd CLS because they need to recoup the research and development costs that they have already laid out (period).

They put up the front money to make the CLS parts, so we should be able to buy them for awhile. They may or may not have any inside info (As tight lipped as Acura is, I'd tend to think they don't know anything more then us). Since alot of the parts for either the Accord or TL can be used on the CLS (with minor modifications) , they can recoup the R&D costs from the future sales of any similiar Accord and TL parts.

Now, will we see new parts from CT that are specifically designed for the CLS and have no interchange value for the other cars
