Anyone ever had the RPM fall to 0 while driving?

A while back, when the car was still new and I didn't have a good feel for it, I was drving along (I don't think it was shifting when it happened) and the revs fell from about 2k to 0 for about 1/2 a second and then came back (my mom and friend who where in the car at the time felt it too. My mom who knows nothing about cars asked what it was and I told her I had no idea and my freind who is going to a trade school and plans to work as an auto mechanic after he gets done with school had no idea what it was.) I felt it and watched the gauge drop to zero and bounce back. Anyways I kept on driving, the next time I took it to the dealer I mentioned it and they just shrugged it off, saying to let them know if it happened again. I hasn't happened since then but for some reason I though about it today and was instered to see if anyone else had experinaced this or knew what it was. my best guess is bad gas but I'm not really sure I wasn't too in tune with the car back then so I can't be sure.

What that... never had that happen! Maybe a bad spark plug? Or just fuel burp?

I know it was really weird, I'll accept the time it died when I shifted from reverse to D4 but I starting thinking about this today and I can't stop.

I know it wasn't the plugs cause I've changed them since and they're all good. As for a fuel burp I dunno I had about 1/2 a tank at the time so I'd think it would be pretty had to get air in the fuel line

typeR- I've driven this road a couple times since then and it hasn't happened *knock on wood* but I though the chip in the key was on used when first starting the car (I really don't know). Ask your dealer about it next time you take it in I'd be interested to know what they have to say about it.

Driving along and my tach dropping to zero for a fraction of second was the first indication that I needed a new tranny. It happened infrequently, but got progressively worse until it failed at 21,000. Coincidentally, I just picked up my new 6-speed CLS yesterday from Duval Acura courtesy of Acura as I Lemon Law'd my 2001.
