anybody from toronto or somewhere cold

when i start my car in the morning, it starts in one crank but the engine kicks really hard. it shudders (not sure if that's the best way to explain it). i've never had this with my previous vehicles. is this normal?

my car takes a few more cranks to start in the last 5 days or so for some reason. maybe my battery is crapping out....

shuddering is not normal, get your mechanic to check your motor mounts, this might be due to excessive engine movement because the mounts are screwed. the suspects are usually the front and passenger side motor mounts.

I think I know what you mean - it's been ~10 degrees in the mornings here in DE for the past week or so. Car starts a little hard, yes, but unless there's a shudder running through the whole vehicle it's fine.

Does it drive ok once warmed up? Mine feels awkward until the tires warm up - feels like driving on rocks for the first couple of miles!

it's normal since there isn't a lot of vaccum on a cold cold crank to energise the mounts and the engine is able to fire but it is a a lower rpm than usual due to cold causing more battery drain and engine is harder to crank

Yeah im pretty sure its normal... my car has more or a kick to it when it starts in this cold weather. Not sure what you mean about shuddering, but the start is definately harsher.

yeh i know what you mean j187 ..im from t.o. ...as soon as the engine catches and sparks its a ROUGH SHRUG..im more than sure my mounts are NOT in great condition so this may be it, but im not sure if i got the rough shake in the summer, dont think so..then again maybe mounts are gettin killed now...when the car has been up and running it wont spark like that, rough..... cold = the culprit
