Any of you CLS-6 guys drive a 3G TL 6 speed?
Make a long story short, a guy wants to buy my CLS from me in the worst way, and for nearly what I paid for it. It's a good deal for him because I've gone through the whole car and really made it what I wanted. It is absolutely smooth as glass on the interstate, quiet, etc, etc.
Anyway, really the only thing I'd want to replace it as a DD with is a 3G TL. I've driven a couple 6 speed cars now and I have to say, the drive itself is boring in comparison. Even though the car weighs the same, all the inputs to the engine feel like my car with 4 people in it. It doesn't pull with authority like mine. VTEC engagement can barely be heard and not felt at all, which I find very entertaining in my car. The car feels heavier, with everything much more deliberate than mine, which makes my car feel lithe and sprightly in comparison.
So I'm torn: The interior and exterior are light-years ahead of the CLS IMO, but the drive frankly is boring. I'm thinking about just keeping my car now. Also, *ALL* of the TLs I have driven have that stupid shimmy at 70 mph that you can read about in the mega-thread over on the 3G boards. What the hell is up with that? All the cars I've driven have nearly new, non-crap rubber. That's another thing that scares me away from those cars....I absolutely hate any vibration while I'm cruising at 70+.
Thoughts?

Add in 4 doors & it's a little heavier. Plus it's the electronic throttle. No cable in the TL. I for one HATE it. It's something I noticed when I test drove the 3g TL myself after it came out. My current car has it too & I still hate it even with the 400hp. Hard to modulate the gas pedal.

Ive driven an 08 Type S 6MT a few times.
It has decent power (more then a stock CL-S6) but drive by wire is maddening. The transmission suffers from the 3rd gear pop-out syndrome (07 and 08s only). I hate how mushy and uninformative the stock clutch is. The steering feels artificially weighted to me - just unnaturally heavy.
The interior is nice but I couldnt find a comfortable seating position. Its a nice looking car too, but you feel all 3559lbs of it. After driving the 3G a few times, it made me love the CL even more. Its not a whole lot lighter, but it feels smaller and more exciting to drive.
What really makes it worse for me is that everywhere you look, there is another 3G. How many CLs do you see on a daily basis?

IMHO... the 03-CLS-6 is an overall better car.
I've driven many 3G TL's. I hate the interior and poor build quality. Handling is not as good and the extra power is eatin up by the extra weight. I always feel isolated from the road in a TL.

I think your mind might change if you drive the second gen CTS-V

Yeah, I am thinking about just keeping it. The TL is a nicer car, but the CL is more fun to drive and that's really want I'm after as the CL fits my needs for DD duty anyway.
No need for a supercharger, I have the GT-R for that

I have an auto CL-S with an intake, headers, pulley, and other small mods. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the 3G TL as far as speed at the strip. My auto CL-S is slightly faster and I don't think the TL is worth the money in my opinion.
Keep the CL-6, mod it, be happy and make some new car owners regret paying a heavy pricetag for a slower car. Besides the CL-6 is reliable and cheap.

You are right about the shaking at higher speeds...I have two buddies with 3rd gen TL's and both shake...I thought it was just a wheel balance problem but after reading more about it, it seems a lot of owners have this problem.

But, dyno numbers dont mean shit.

Acura's quality has gone down each year. The 3rd gen tl has quality issues that you dont see on the older pre 2004 acura's such as cracking dash and the side mirrors that turn brown like audi's side mirrors do etc. Also add in drive by wire which I can't stand. Overall tho they are basically the same car.
If I was to start over I would not buy a honda/acura that was not made in japan like the cl and tl. Quality isn't as good and no aftermarket support.

'03 CL-S 6MT non nav (nav is 15lbs heavier) - 3,446lbs
'07 TL-S 6MT (nav standard) - 3,559lbs

Those are stock weights. I havent had my CL weighed, but Im probably down to around 3,380lbs do to lighter suspension, wheels, exhaust, and cf hood and soon to be trunk. The weight savings from the aluminum brake calipers is made up by the larger discs though.
I know the PCDs and j-pipe weigh less than the stock parts on the TL, and most members do have aftermarket wheels as well.

Street. I'm keeping my car. I like it, I like the color, and I like the entertaining drive. My headers just came in. I need to install some H&Rs and put on these SSR type Cs I have laying around for the CL and enjoy it.

I like how you sold the 335, Evo, and Z06, yet still kept the CL.
ABP is a beautiful color; it's a big reason why I still have this car, as silly as that sounds
THis thread is music to my ears, I thought I was the only one who hated the laggy drive-by-wire system! I also hate that cylinder deactivation on the Accord V6 Coupe.

Pics of the CL and GTR soon. I do have one of the Z06 and the CL which I think looks awesome.
And one of the GTR before I get them combined:

TQ > MPG
The electronic throttle is what really irks me on the 3G TL. Just doesnt feel natural. I have driven other cars with drive-by-wire (Lincoln LS V8, Ford Flex, Altima SE-R) and none of them gave me that disconnected feeling like the 3G TL did.
I like the exterior & interior much better than the CL-S, but its not nearly as fun to drive.
This is the reason I still have mine, and it has 170k+ on it now. Original owner. Original clutch.

lol, I dread the day when I have to depend on a computer/sensor to control my throttle response.
