Any thoughts on UR Lighter Flywheel and clutch?

I read you can add some serious HP to the wheels by getting a lighter flywheel and the Unorthodox Racing flywheel fits perfectly with their aftermarket clutch.

Anyone hear advantages/disadvantages of doing this? I have a 97 2.2CL.

And a lot of ideas in my head...

dude.....automatic transmissions dont have clutches...but if you have a manny than yea lighter flywheels allow your engine to rev faster because thats the first thing your engine turns. A better clutch will last longer...

I have 5 speed.

I'm wondering what the long term effects might be.
Can I initially just replace the flywheel and wait on doing the clutch?

Be careful here. Flywheels are precisely matched to engine characteristics. A lighter one will make the engine rev quicker but the red line will come faster too, so it'll be very easy to over-rev.
The torque will also be affected. How much less, depends on your engine and how much lighter the new flywheel is.
This is not trivial.

Since an egine must accelaerate everything including the flywheel, istalling a lighter flywheel is one way to get the car to accelerate faster out of the hole. However there are some drawbacks.Since the engine needs the flywheel to maintain momentum at an idle you will nitice that it will require more revs to get the car going from a stop. This will in the long term affect clutch life since driving a car with such components will require more clutch slippage to get the car moving. So driving in traffic can be somewhat of a hassle.Overall do not expect power gains simply a more spirited feeling engine.Jens
