Any Opinion Regarding Synthetic Blends
What is the general concensus regarding the use of synthetic blends or semisynthetic oil for our cars? Are they better than the regular 0.99 per quart dino oil?

Short answer: Synthetic is better, but
if you are doing oil changes regularly (i.e. 3000-3500 ) it may not matter all that much.

They run cleaner, longer, but with pretty much the same preformance as regular oil. It does do significatly better in some tests, (significant eqating to > or = 10%) but not many. Real world test don't show much preformance improvement.
The main reason for using synthetics is that they don't break down anywhere near as fast as conventional, which keeps your engine free of buildup. They also flow better at extreme temperatures.
However you will have to keep replacing your filter regularly anyway since they don't last as long as synthetic oil... Otherwise the oil would last 10k miles easily.
If you have the money and the effort to continuously take good care of your car, then yes, use it! Otherwise, if you don't care for micromanaging things, then stick with the regular stuff.
