any more news about headlights getting stolen?
My manager and I are pretty good friends...I've even let him drive my CL-S one time...he loved the VTEC.
He stopped by my desk this morning and he told me that he had heard on the news that the "newest" thing among thieves is to snatch HIDs, particularly CLs and TLs.
This isn't news to me, because I've heard several accounts from members on this board about these thefts. What was odd to me was that I had ran into another buddy of mine in NYC who had an ITR, and he also had heard about the stolen HIDs. He also claimed that he saw two at an Acura dealership last weekend with big holes in the front.
Maybe it's just me but I haven't heard much about these HIDs getting stolen in a while so I've let my guard down slightly. I even parked on the street in the Upper East side in Manhattan over the weekend.
Should I be letting my guard down...or should I take more precautions...(eg: park w/ front bumper close to wall, etc)

It's still happening. It's funny b/c about 7 other people in my company have a TL and they all know I'm a car enthusiast. WHenever someone gets a new TL they always email me to ask me if I knew about the headlights being stolen. I tell them yes.. it's been a problem since the '02's came out.. for over a year now ![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
It's old news.. but I think others are just finding out about it....
it was on MSNBC the other day too.... I was yelling at the TV that they're a year too late

what's really nuts is replacement costs...if u assume NO damage occured (not likely), just to replace the housing and HID units, it'll cost u upwards of $1,800 (according to an AutoX friend who works at an Acura dealership near me)...can u say vandalism insurance????
and regarding Junior's post above, did they mention the new Maxima's HID's also???

Actually they did mention that Nissan was having the same thefts.. but it was mainly about Acura's.
The absolute funniest part of the whole story was that the whole time they were talking about it and showing statistical overlays they were showing the Integra... a car that doesn't even have HIDs... I was laughing my ass off

Was home in Bronx this weekend found out that our neighbour got a new Maxima a month ago and within 18 hours had his HIDs stolen.
Then, he got them fixed and parked in a neighbours yard and a week later had them stolen again
Yea, I think it's still quite a problem in NY/NJ, so watch out. Also, after the second theft, his insurance company dropped him, now that sucks.

There's a story that hit the AP wire earlier this week...

It even comes with a caption -

Dominick Pardo, a body shop owner in Newark, N.J., looks at a late model Acura Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, that had the front end ripped off to steal a pair of expensive headlights. The replacement cost runs from $2,000 to $5,000. (AP Photo/Mike Derer)

well...they had a beige TL on the short brief.
Basically didn't say anything new that hasn't been discussed here.
They recommended motion sensors on the bumper area, and to park real close to walls or be highly visible.
