Any 6speeds left?

I hunted a ABP down years ago and then sold it. One of the best cars I've ever had. Kid who bought it, money shifted within 3 months and blew the motor. Just curious how many are left...

considering 3500 were made.. let's say 10% were killed. that's still over 3000 of them kicking around. here's mine (3.5L now)

What is a 6 speed?

Original Owner here, purchased in 2002.

Your car looks very nice rp_guy. You gonna do sides and rear or just the front?

I would say more than 10 % are off the road. I would be surprised if there are still 2k on the road.

i think 10% is a pretty good guess. they don't come up that often on the wrecker. i think people just hold onto them because they are decent cars.

also the sides and rear are done as well, just don't show up well in pics because it isn't as flared as the front. might try to pull them out a bit in the summer.

not much to it. looked into 3.6 and 3.7, but I got a 3.5 crank and rods for free, so it was much cheaper to do a 3.5 than the newer builds. haven't really pushed it as it's still in break-in period. i didn't take any more pics cause it's raised to stock height for the winter. and anything can look good with the saturation maxed out

teh CL 12-16-2014 10:37 PM

So you stroked the 3.2, thought it was a j35a3 swap..

Oh & I'm down for stock height pics lol

I've had mine for 2.5 years. 95 K now. Blast to drive. High "fun" quotient. Accumulating parts to do a cosmetic restoration soon. Wanted a Blue one, but couldn't find a decent one to buy when I was looking, so I bought red w/black.

you hog.

I've had 2. Both SSM on ebony. Bought the first one in '07. I actually see many 6speeds for sale around here (for cheap). I also see a bunch at the same wreckers i've been meaning to go to.

teh CL 12-17-2014 02:22 PM

^ which wreckers?

gnuts 12-17-2014 03:21 PM

Green Lane Auto. I think they're in Markam. I went there once when i lived in Brampton, but now it's so far for me. I need some 6speed interior bits.

bigdaddyKA8 12-17-2014 06:13 PM

Yup, I'm a hog also... I have a NBP navi and anthracite navi that I'm selling tomorrow. I've seen a couple at my local junkyards over the years as well. Another thing to consider is how many have been bought for swaps? Not only for CLs but for other cars. I haven't followed up on his thread recently but there was also an nsx guy doing a j swap too. I'd imagine that figure is closer to 50-60% left on the road. I could be wrong though.

I was hoping it was local.. Those guys have a few 6 speeds & their prices are wack.. Buddy wanted $350 for a 01' front bumper without fogs :what:

TheWeez 12-18-2014 02:48 PM

Just turned over 155k on mine today.

You could just swap in a 3rd gen tl tranny into any of the tens of thousands of automatics and make many more 6 speeds, or are we only counting cars that originally came with 6 speed? What if they swapped in a 3.5 motor from another car, do they still count since it isn't original anymore? It doesn't really matter since these cars are worth nothing. Better off parting out than selling. Sell whole car for 3-4k when you can sell the tranny alone for 1500.

I agree with you about it being a lot less on the road then the 90% posted before(I doubt any car has 90% still on road after over 10 years). There are so many that were wrecked and used for swaps on forums. Every car show I go to has a car with a j32a2 swap with a cl 6 speed in it. It only takes a slight fender bender for insurance to total these cars.

01CLinprocess 12-19-2014 07:07 AM

I've had one for about a year now. My first car was an 01 CL Type S, engine blew in that. At 17 I got an 01 S2000 mint condition, wrapped it around a power pole. Then a Lexus IS300, hated it. Then a beater 98 Accord v6 sedan. Then finally what I have now, an 03 CL 6MT. Engine was built to 300WHP NA by the previous owner, he took that out and put in a JDM J32A motor with 50k miles on it. It also had a 3G 6 Speed in it because the original tranny blew when he snapped an axle in second. I love the car. It being the first car I owned, its special, and I always wanted a black on black 6 Speed. The S2000 was awesome as well, but not practical for an only car. I still miss the S2000 like hell, I owned it for a month before I let the back slip out on a 90 degree turn, over corrected, and suffered the AP1's massive snap oversteer. The passengers side hit a power post, ruined the rear quarter panel and door, bent the frame. I killed that transformer, dominion power said total damages were around $15,000 (lol woops).

22 Years of age under my belt now, I treat the CL with respect. Good thing I learned when I was younger, even if it was the hard way.

coopcoop30 12-19-2014 07:40 AM

I have an 03 CL6 as well. Black on black and have looked for this car for years. I've had 2 6th gen Accords, Civic, an RL as well, but the CL just calls to me.

timberland73 12-19-2014 12:16 PM

I have an 03 AM. 118K. Just got beat to shit with hail. Insurance totaled it but I kept her. Probably gonna sell it soon.

wackjum 12-19-2014 01:50 PM

I have two, a white and a red.

The red was going to be salvaged but I bought it and restored it.

03-6/6 12-21-2014 02:01 PM

i got one. black/black non-navi. 187k bought with 153k in july 2013

Allout 12-29-2014 12:41 PM

I still have my SSM Navi but don't drive it much.

bigdaddyKA8 12-29-2014 05:15 PM

Ok so I'm chiming in again because after reading all of these posts it brings back memories of my addiction to the Legend Coupe six speed. I have owned 4 of these throughout my life and currently still have the one on my avatar. Barely drive it but can't find it in me to part ways with it. My wife has always asked me "for someone who loves cars so much why do you keep buying the same one over again?" And that's a really good question. Now my theory applies to both the Legend six speed and the CLS6. I enjoy having a rare car. Neither are the fastest or honestly the best car for your $$, but as the years pass and they become harder to find my addiction for them keeps growing. We all know the CLS6 even with a blower is only trying to keep up with the majority of newer cars. But that's ok, I'm not looking to turn it into a track car. I have done just enough mods to distinguish my car and make it fun to drive. And even though I get burned every now and then, when I stomp it, the CLS6 holds it own and doesn't get smoked. I love the fact no matter how bad I dog it, I come out every morning and it turns right over. I can't say the same for the Legend because that's a money pit. For anyone who's had one they know it's one thing to own a Legend, and another thing to maintain a Legend. And maybe that's why I love my CLS6 so much more. Let's face it, unless you're a baller and are making it rain at the clubs, this is the last big body coupe Acura will make for us. NSX's both new and used are way too much for my budget. RSX's were nice but too small for my liking, and way too common. Now that the market has bottomed out price wise you can pick one up for a couple grand in decent shape. So if anyone is thinking about pulling the trigger on one when you see a local ad do it. Many members here have sold theirs and then go out and hunt one down again. It's just a good overall car. Just my two cents...

The CLS6 is a good all around vehicle and you have to understand its limitations. The platform will never make a great drag vehicle and if you pick your battles, it still is a strong contender.

I don't want to turn this into a street kills thread but I've had my share of fun in mine and still enjoy driving it whenever I can. For example, I came across a 2013 M3 Coupe which had the V8 400+ crank HP motor in it. We did multiple pulls from various speeds between 30-110 mph and it was pretty even. When we pulled over and talked, the owner of the M3 was as shocked as I was when we discussed what each of us was driving. Obviously, from a dig, he would have given me a memorable pounding but understanding the CLS6's limitations will give you many enjoyable moments. And in my opinion, the M3 is heads above the majority of newer cars.

As the CLS6 gets older, I believe the bang for the buck increases. Those are my dos centavos. :2cents:

An original 2003 CL Type S 6 speed

1 Attachment(s)
I am the original owner. I bought this car brand new on November 1, 2002. It has never been altered, raced, or abused in any way, just extremely well maintained, carefully driven (mostly on highways) for 208,000 miles, always garaged. I doubt that there are many left which can compare with it in its originality and near-new condition inside and out. I am ready to sell it. Serious buyers who will appreciate the care and condition are welcome to contact me.

Allout 01-02-2015 12:18 PM

Great looking CLS6! Hopefully it goes to someone who will appreciate it.

joeshed 01-02-2015 12:31 PM

Yes I don't plan to sell it to anyone who won't appreciate it...a rare car, in rarely found condition.

I am also the original owner of mine, purchased in February 2003. It now has 208,000 Km's or 129,000 miles & is the same as your picture. It is in pretty sweet condition as well, as I have also thoroughly maintained the vehicle.

I'd be very curious to hear about what you finally sell it for?

I am under the impression that its value is worth more to keep than to sell unfortunately. That's the way I feel about mine anyways...

g1underground 01-02-2015 03:17 PM

Second owner, purchased in 2004. Just turned 122,500.
Hope to keep it until I can run antique plates on it.

Thanks for your post. Yes, a car like this would be extremely hard to replace. I will keep it unless/until I find a buyer who will see the value that this car provides.
