AM radio stations and defrosters.

I am seeing serious interferance in AM radio when you turn your defrosters on . What is up with that. My buddy told me to start listening to a show on AM radio so I did and in the morning I crank my car , tune in the station , comes in clear, then turn on defrosters and there is horrible interferance. I would assume that it is because of the location of the antenna , but that sucks. Wayne, Jens , or anyone have any ideas. Now that I know it is there it is annoying.

This car has the worst AM reception of any car I've owned. I wonder if its the head unit or the antenna?

The FM reception is nothing to write home about either. I was going to start a topic concerning this. Anyone boosted their signal?

Acura CL owners,

I live in So. Calif. and listen to a lot of AM radio stations in the morning to avoid traffic accidents on the freeway(s). Almost all stations come in pretty clearly, but I do know that the stations I listen to have very strong signals. Do all the AM radio stations you guys listen to have terrible reception? In my opinion, I think it could be the station's weak signal. I could be wrong.

Unfortunately, the radio antenna is in the back window where the drfroster is. It's not the only car that has this problem. Audi has it as well in the A6. Virtually any car with an in window antenna is gonna have this problem Weak FM stations have the same interference.

Most AM stations are tiny little things with less wattage than a hair dryer. I only listen to 2 AM stations in LA. One had 5,000w and the other had 50,000w. Both come in fine, but the 5,000w one gets more interference from power lines. Acura went for form over function on this one. Antennas built into the window just aren't as good as the metal masts.

If its a fairly weak Am station, you may be out of luck. If the problem is with the rear defogger, have the ground checked where it attaches in the roof area near the back of the sunroof assm. we have had some luck cleaning and tightening this ground.
