They clocked a 5.95 0-60 time. I don't get it. They tested a '03 6 speed a while back and didn't even try to get the fastest time. They actually had an estimated 0-60 of 6.1 seconds. I firmly believe that the '03 6 speed is the fastest FWD production car. These magazines suck. . .

The SRT was tested by Car and Driver, not Motor Trend. I also think Nissan paid em for that 5.95 because the car finished LAST against the Mazda 6 and the VW Jetta cause they said torque steer was ridiculous (so how did they manage that time then) the interior was too damn cheap to be a 28k car and the car felt it was built on a smaller chassis, I.E. it felt like a barge.
This car also just lost this month in Road and Track, the auto got a 6.7 I think and finished tied for 3rd with the Camry. The 6 and Accord beat it. Same thing, it was fast but the interior is the worst in the INDUSTRY and it was not sporty at all.

for an auto mag to come out and say something so bold, "fastest FWD production car EVER TESTED" is a ballsy move, they should be held accountable for printing bullshit in a respected magazine....statements like that will very quickly reduce the publics faith in their reporting and raise questions about their integrity....hearing something like that just makes me never want to pick up a motortrend magazine again for as long as i live....how can you weed out the bullshit when they make such ludacris statements like this? whats next???
"Nissan 350Z BEST CAR EVER PRODUCED IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND!!..." "according to one of the field test drivers, the new 350Z is so advanced and so fast that, "oh yeah, we hit mach 1 coming around the backstretch on our last lap, this baby is unreal, it will take the rest of the automotive world decades to catch up to this level."

This line in the same article REALLY caught my attention:
"If that weren't enough, its quarter mile time (14.46 seconds at 98.6mph) is also a record-setter and nearly tied a 350z's 14.02-second run."
How in the HELL is a 14.46 nearly tied with 14.02????? The only plausible explanation is that the 14.02 is a mis-print. Which just goes to show you the quality of Motor Trend. What a useless rag

you guys seem to be getting bent outta shape over nothing, nissan didn't do anything. this is motortrends article and the time looks fairly accurate for a 5-speed 03 altima, i doubt a 03 accord would be much, if any faster to 60. car and driver had a similiar statement when they tested the tiburon vs the race car tiburon, 'fastest fwd 0-60' and it was also high 5's at that.
i love the torque steer complaints, umm, its a fwd car with power, oh no. test driving a maxima se, that tug on the wheel put a smile on my face as i mashed the pedal.
altima, worst interior of all midsize sedans, keep dreaming. the 6 interior could give bmw a run for their money, so losing to it doesn't say much.

Safety Car
M/T is atrocious...they are not experts there....hacks is more like it.
Other car mags mock M/T, almost universally it seems. So what if they ran all the other cars with passengers and a full tank, and the Nissan was showing a fuel light...they don't think that it makes a difference. Maybe they had a guy counting from launch and watchin the speedo thil it hit 60. :pee:

I'm confused! Motor Trend stated "fastest FWD production car we've ever tested" NOT 'fastest FWD production car period.' Was there a faster FWD production car tested by Motor Trend ever??? Rephrase: Were there quicker/faster numbers published via their testing on other production FWD cars (in Motor Trend) than the Altima 3.5SE? If so, write to them and mention the FWD production car they've tested (in the past) in which their performance results were quicker. If not, their statement holds true.
Whether it's the Altima in Motor Trend or Calvin Klein Sportswear in GQ, the assessment made by the article writers about the topic discussed IS subjective. If this is unacceptable, you might as well cancel your subscription to every magazine to which you may subscribe because at some point, you're not going to agree with something written.
Peace.

Guys sorry to say this but....... THE NISSAN ALTIMA IS THE FASTEST FRONT WHEEL DRIVE THEY'VE EVER TESTED!! It might not be the fastest fwd out today, but its up there!! doubt me? well look at this then......
http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2105.shtml
I watched this episode on tv too. Guess what the first run of the car was? 14.1 @ 101mph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw it with my own eyes!!! they averaged three runs to get that 14.4!!
reasons why the altima is so fast:
1. Nissan is badly understating its stock hp!!!
2. it weighs 3,195 pounds!! I theorize its putting down as much power as the cls6 or accord v6, with nearly 400+ pounds less!! combine this with a 1/4 tank of gas, and a slim test driver, and your low 14's all day long!!!!!
lets try and keep things in perspective!! the testers just stated that shi.t to get a rise out of people! looking at last months issue, the accord v6 coupe is right there with the altima, with almost the exact same trap speeds, and a .1 second difference at the 1/4. Now the 0 to 100mph figues tell a differernt story!! 15 seconds flat for the altima, and 16.4 for the accord v6!! the altima will even take down a 330CI!!

I think its common knowledge that the Alty is faster than the Maxima (at least it is on the org). I think this is why the org is so bent out of shape about the whole horsepower issue. Max is slower with 15 more horsies...er ponies

Nissan has to be paying Motor Trend or something because like Night Hawk a Stock CL-S 6-speed should run 14.4-5 no problem.
since we are on the subject of Nissan what is up with their styling. I hate the style of the Z, I like this series of Maximas and Altamas but I saw the early pictures of the release of the new Maxima and in my thoughts it's nasty I hate when they bulge the fenders. maybe I'm too traditional
