Aftermarket HID/Ballast replacement Ques.
My Ballast is toast and after browsing the forums here I found a great DIY from someone who changed to an OMNI X aftermarket kit.
Basically there are so many kits on that site I dont know which to choose.
Am I right in assuming I would buy the D2R kit. (this would just replace the D2R componants we have for better ones??)
I just need an inexpensive fix for this issue, and of the cheaper replacment units I gather this is the better one.
If there are ANY other suggestion please let me know.
THANKS
I just cant stomach the nearly $1000 fix from Acura

Whats up with RDX owners?
iTrader: (9)
Check out www.ddmtuning.com
They have cheaper kits and they offer a lifetime warranty on the ballasts.

hidextra.com - you can even get a whole kit for $85. D2R 5000K is the closest to stock (4300K). Personally, I would go w/ D2R 6000K.

Jade,
Search "hidextra" on here and you'll find a lot of info. I have the same problem, was outraged with the quoted cost from my mechanic. I was leary about the prices of these kits but there are enough positive testimonials from people on here who used a kit from hidextra that made me confident enough to buy one. And the company's rep, Michelle has a constant presence on these forums, giving out coupon codes, answering questions and handling customer service issues. I had a lot of rookie questions which she answered on here and via email very quickly.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to attempt taking my car's bumper off, but there are several DIY posts on here with pictures (including the guy who bought the omniX product) and it looks like a fairly simple process. It's a low risk procedure that's certainly worth putting the time in considering the cost savings.
My kit just came in yesterday (ordered Wednesday night, arrived Friday morning, CA to NC) and as soon as the sun comes up I'm going to get started.
Hope my two cents helped. Good luck.

DDMTuning kits are ~$40 shipped. Why spend more sponsor or not? I have 3 of their kits ranging in age from 3 years to ~4 months and haven't had any issues with the ballasts or the bulbs.

After recently buying my cl, a ballast went bad about a week later. I was a bit upset when learning of the cost to fix. So I followed the DIY on here and had no problems. As for the kit, I bought the 40 dollar one and it worked great.

THANKS guys, you've been very helpful.
I was going to go with the OMNIX kit because of the DIY posted on here, but I may purchase a different set now that you've mentioned cheaper kits with better warranties.
Thanks again..how dare Acura pull this $700 crap..next they will try to charge me for a brand new seat just because the back fell off.....oh wait they did that already. (so I just sold my old car and bought a 6-speed..best move ever)

just called DDM tuning, they said the "slim" 35 watt kit was $65 and the $55 Watt is $75
They both come with LIFETIME warranty, you send them the old broken and they send you new stuff.
This so far seems the way to go.
I may start a post regarding the reliability of this product.
MODELCARNUT seems to endorse the product, it just seems so damn cheap...

The way I see it is that sometimes you get a good ballast that last a long time and some times you get a crappy one that cuts out in a year, No matter how much U pay! When your shopping I would advise getting the one with the longest warranty , but I wouldnt pay much more than 100 because the ones that are 400 are the same IMO as the 100 dollar ones there is no reason for such a big price difference (unless Im missing something and there made out of gold!)

good point fluffy - you've pretty much just sold me on the DDM.
lifetime warranty makes the sale!!
and I hear a lot about buying relays to keep flickering and surges down to a min. so I may splurge on this as well

hey mr.fluffy, i just put my hid's in. where did you mount yours? i put mine in the flat location on chassis under the headlights. if you put it there it blocks the bolts so you have to rip out the ballast if you need to take out the headlight ever. Did you put yours there too?
