AEM Cai Warranty Question

For the holidays I have been begging my dad to consider buying me a AEM Cai w/bypass valve. He said his main issue is that it will void my warranty on my Auto 03 Cl-S. I told him that this mod does not void your warranty. Does anyone know where I can get an official document saying that a cold air intake will not void the Cl-S warranty. Thanks guys.

Please do not take this negatively, but owning a 30k+ car should not warrant the request of a CAI. Now I understand if a parent purchased the vehicle for you but that should indicate that there is enough money in the family to give you the $200 needed.

Of all guys in knew in High School the ones with decent cars purchased by parents had supplemental income from their parents or work. This was definitely enough for a $200 intake.

Hey,
Yes my parents paid for a car, and I love it and appreciate it. However, I did pay $10,000 of it after saving up... and I am currently left with no money to spend. I have heard that AEM CAI makes a sweet sound that I would like to have. Therefore, for Chanukah I requested this from my dad, otherwise I will save up for it and purchase it later on.

Well, currently in my community I tutor people on the computer for $25 an hour. However, I probably make around $25-$200 a month from this. My parents do not want me to get a job, because they find academics more important, which I excel in. I use the money from the computer tutoring to buy my gas. I am very lucky to have this car, but I am not spoiled like you probably think.

You are correct in that it makes a sweet sound. Heck, I might even feel generous and give you my old intake since I have not had any buyers. BTW, this is a AV6 intake I modified to fit the CL-S over two years ago.

You don't have to defend yourself... you just probably need to advertise a little more about your tutoring... get more students and teach 2 hours a day - that's 40 hours a month - that's $1000, tax free!

Academics is more important... maybe you should try to figure out a substitute for the $200 CAI. Try putting something together like Scalbert did! Learn something in the process!

Being from West Palm the only assumptions would be older parents especially considering the Jewish decent. Do you tutor in some area where the speed limit is 15 MPH???

Just playing, I travel that area often and have in office there. So I know the stereotypes that are portrayed.

The "project" took about two minutes on a table band saw. I just cut the extra nine inches off, nothing more.

The sound is noticeable at all revs but just subtly at low revs. But when at WOT and hitting Vtec range the note is beautiful...

BTW, I wasn't joking....

If you want the intake you can have it. It is just collecting dust in my garage right now.

I dont think I could accept such a generous donation. That would be way to nice of you... but thanks for the offer. Do you happen to know of anything that says that a Cold Air intake for a 03 Auto Cl-S will not void my warranty?

well, I'm not too proud to beg. The goal of being a happy home owner has kept me from getting a CAI... $40 shipped to NC? I know that's an insulting price, but it's a decent dinner. Or, I got some mountain bike parts to trade, they're also just collecting dust.

i got a better one for you renegade...this will require alittle work on your part but ,step by step instructions are here in chods FAQ on how to do this....remove the lower resonator below the factory air box housing...this is a simple 15 minute job...unless your name is amir (private joke) at this point your stock air box will take on a deeper tone noticable in the higher RPMs not ubnoctious and certainly will not void your warranty to this i can attest and if you wanted you could look up the "magnusson moss act" which simple states the dealer/manufacture must prove that the modification caused the said failure for which warranty work is being denied...now back to the point save 50$ buy a K&N drop in and not only will you have a nice sound from your cl(though not quiet the scream of the AEM )you will all so have the performance

Any modifications voids warrenty, if the dealershio wants it to. Ask the dealership about it; if they're cool about it and they say no, have them call your dad. I deal from Baierl Acura out of Wexford PA, and my saleman goes to shows with me. He says:get the cold air and if something happens to the car replace the old filter system; it's not that hard. I just trade in a 2002 RSX-s on a CL Type S and just ordered an AEM CAI with optional bypass (I would advise this 34.00 my cost) and i will install it This Tuesday. If something happens to engine I will replace old one. Computer dianostics can't reveal your aftermarket intake, just what the problem is. Mike Team Xtreme Auto Parts

Looking for clear bra for front. My new cl is notorious for things coming at it while driving. My 202 RSX wasn't this bad.

I have no problem with that and know the struggles after purchasing my first house. I was offering to give it away but having a few $$ is never a bad thing.

Drop me a PM if you are interested.

Hey Type R I was looking at Chod's FAQ, and I didn't happen to see anything that mentioned the resonator. Maybe you could give me a link to those instructions? This might sound dumb, but what is a K&N drop in, and why will I have the performance. When I take the resonator off, is it a screechy sound, or a nice deep sound.

typeR ... since you hold the lofty title of "moderator", I think this question is appropriate for you. I have read many, many threads and noticed almost as many sig blocks where drivers indicate the use of the K&N drop-in in their CL's. Here is my question: K&N does not support/authorize/recommend/sanction the use of the 33-2178 K&N filter in the CL. This is a fact, and have been told as much twice by K&N when I called them and asked about this very issue. Now, I agree, it makes soooo much sense that since the same engine is used in the CL-S as in the TL-S, and since K&N does recommend this part for use in the TL-S, that this filter should be the one used in the CL-S. However, when I bring this point to the discussion, I am told that I can use whatever filter I want in my vehicle, however K&N will not be held liable for any damage which could be traced to the use of this filter in this vehicle. I could assume that I am being overly concerned about this, however I find that the reasons that these people are known as the "experts" is because their very livelyhoods depend on dispensing accurate and accountable information. Could you please provide your understanding/opinions on this? The K&N application is just one of the issues I notice on many of these threads where "user's opinions" seem to run contrary to "expert's recommendations". tks

sure easy...ill tell you a story about H&R...they supposedly tested there springs on the 99+tl and 98+accord v6..they dont recomend those spirngs, o.e. ,sport or race on the cl...it seems the previous gen cl was off the 95-97 accord platform ,and we all know the cl is the redheaded step child of acura ,as well as the aftermarket world....H&R(the experts) had no idea the new '01 cl was made on the accord platform ,and with that they said," oh then the springs are fine"...id say the same is true with K&N.maybe...when i goto my auto parts store and asked for a K&N drop in they asked what car, what year, what model, what trim, and ordered one that was listed on there computer for my car,not a tl. for a cl ...now im sure theyre the same, but im not sure exactly where your getting your info...i dont know what part number the K&N is...but here's another simple one for you...goto any O.E. honda parts online shop and look up the replacement filter for the '02TL typeS, now compare it to the cl-S, they will be the same part number ,thus proving that if the same o.e. filter fits the tland cl ,than the same K&N does...

i just went to the K&N web site and they show a panel drop in for the '01 cl type S
#33-2178
BTW renegade if you dont know by now a K&N drop in is a replacement air filter for your car that will flow more air than the stock unit..the same as a cone type that comes with the AEM cold air K&N is the brand

interesting ... I just went to their web site and found the same results for not only the '01 but the '02 as well ... had to modify my query as I was initially very specific (model = CL 3.2 Type-S) which showed no results, but remove everything after the 'CL' and I see the same thing you do. I have to assume that they have just not updated their info to reflect '03 model information, and their technical support people basically haven't got a clue! tks for your reply.

Renegade, George my friend and salesman from Baierl Acura in Wexford, Pa, says that as CAI, even superchargers and turbos DO NOT VOID Warranties. The only thing that voids warranty is internal engine work and ECU CHip Replacements. He's been selling Acuras for about 10 years. so I think he knows, but ask your dealership about it. or call acura customer service.
He (George)is the one with the 98 prelude. When sold me my RSX-S, we started doing shows together, Carlisle, PA (where he was in the Top Flight Tent, Winchester,VA, Hot Import Daze, Seven Speed, just to name a few.You can see the cars on www. whiptcho.com under Previous SHows Hot Import Daze. He has the white prelude and I have the silver RSX - S.
