Actually, I think all they have to do is move the mounting brace thing...I just installed the 98-00 Accord's on my 3.0 and I heard it is the same deal with the CL-S and CL-P. It seems really easy to fix that, but they have so many other products in line other than our intakes....I couldn't wait so I just bought the accord's

WebToker,
Good point. Xephyr's Polished CAI is more reasonable; however, I believe AEM's K&N Filter also has a velocity stack built into it, thus allowing smoother air flow to the TB. If Xephyr can incorporate that into his CAI, he'll definitely have a good product. I believe he can do that by incorporating a RS Akimoto Funnel ram stack. What do you think Xephyr?

I got it for a couple of reasons. First I have made many home intake kits, all have worked well, but there have been some shortcomings like appropriate support for the filter. I ruined one 9" K&N cone when it had begun rubbing an edge in the engine compartment. I found it after it was about an inch large. Also, since it is essentially what AEM will be supplying there was no need to wait. I can cut some metal and it will still appear as though it were designed for the car.
I even have the CARB sticker for it...

Hmmm... Are you saying that one could just take the Accord unit and use the CARB # with the CL-S (can't be that easy, can it?)
Has anybody ever had them "run" some Carb numbers of aftermarket parts at a smog check in California?

According to a local shop in the SF bay area, AEM will be releasing a cold air induction and a short ram in about a month or so for the Type-S.
Another alternative for those who want a carb approved short ram from aem, the short ram from the 3.0L 98 accord will fit with a slight nodification. Also I am assured that even with the modification the short ram should retain its CARB approval.

FDAO,
Here is a quote from K&N, NOTE: This is not my research into velocity stack filter however as CAI offer the most gain at higher RPM and Speed Bands it does give another perspectice....
"Whenever possible, performance enthusiasts should install a K&N 360 degree open-element filter. A correctly sized conical or round filter will deliver 100 percent air flow with no measurable restriction. And, as we have learned, providing the engine with all of the air it needs promotes optimum performance. In a high speed application, a K&N filter will straighten the air which counteracts turbulence. Straight cut velocity stacks, for example, pose a unique problem. Exposed to the outside air, velocity stacks experience a phenomena that actually hinders performance at high speed. We are referring to stacks and air horns that protrude through the hood and extend into the air stream so the direction of the air rushing over the car is at a perpendicular angle to the length of the tube.
Air moving rapidly over these stacks create turbulence inside the opening. At high speed, the rushing air tends to create a partial vacuum inside the tube. The condition is counterproductive to air flow. The phenomena also effects open carburetors. The higher the ground speed, the greater the problem. Vacuum created by the engine is trying to coax air into the cylinders and the high speed air flowing over the open end of the stack is causing resistance.
Reversion creates other problems. In an automotive application, reversion refers to reversed air flow, or in simpler terms, it's when air in the intake runner reverses direction for a split second. The condition is caused when a burst of pressure escapes into the intake runner from the cylinder during valve overlap. Studies have shown reversion creates resonance shock waves inside the tubes which exit the open end of the tube at various rates depending on engine speed. It has also been proven that these shock waves interfere with each other when the stacks are in close proximity. Installing a free-flowing air filter on top of each stack or over the carburetor air horn eliminates these conditions.
How? The solution is simply explained. The filter creates a plenum over the opening. Air entering the filter is slowed, smoothed and straightened. The filter then becomes an endless source of calm, clean air. Shock waves dissipate within the confines of the plenum without interfering with the shock waves emitted from an adjacent stack. "

[insert Xephyr CAI advertisement here]
J/p around, I don't think I would be able to justify the price difference between AEM and Xephyr with the performance so I just picked up Xephyr's now. Plus he's obviously put a lot of time/effort into these projects, so might as well help out a fellow member...

I'd get his but I gotta get it locally and install it myself. Cause my parents for one reason or another will go nuts if they find out. So I can get an AEM locally and with cash and install it myself on the weekend other wise I'd get his or make my own.

Everyone (DWI/BlackCL):
This install is very easy and even people without any mechanical inclination will be able to install it in under 1.5 hours. This is allowing 1 hour to remove your factory intake assembly. The installation of the Xephyr Performance CAI after removal of stock intake will take no more then 15 minutes.... My installation FAQ does NOT require removal of the bumper as other installation do. You will remove a total of four 10mm bolts, and 4 plastic fasteners. There are four plastic clips under the front driver side splash guard (under the car). Two 10mm bolts under the hood that are easy to reach, and two under the car after the four plastic clip fasteners are removed in a slightly more difficult location to reach. However, the installation FAQ lists step-by-step instructions and photo's of where ALL of the bolts are. Realistically the entire process can be done in under 30 minutes if you read the installation FAQ prior to the install. IT DOES NOT REQUIRE A PROFESSIONAL INSTALL. This is a 100% NON-INVASIVE & NON_DESTRUCTIVE process. It can be reversed at any time for service in under 30 minutes once you are familiar with the car. Also the Xephyr Performance CAI can be switched to a Short-Ram setup in less time via the quick release clamps (No bolts to remove, just four plastic fasteners). More information will be published (Install instructions & installation process online on Monday 1/29/01 at www.XephyrPerformance.com/Installation.htm
Hope this helps shed some light on the process!
Also on Monday 1/29/01 look to www.XephyrPerformance.com/FAQS.htm for the most commonly asked questions and answers directly from customer emails and message postings.

I've said it time and time again. Screw AEM.... you'll end up waiting 50 times longer than you should. My friend had to wait a year when he got his Civic Si... he finally got so ticked off that he got an Iceman instead. My bet is that Comptech makes either a CAI or a supercharger before AEM finishes their CAI.
