If you did order one then the installer has to cut the cai pipe at the point where the bypass valve will be. Just make sure that it isn't cut too low, (i.e. rurofan's bypass valve is installed too low).

Nick, The bypass valve prevents hydrolocking the engine. If you live in areas of high rain / flooding ya should get it. I see it as cheap insurance $39. I live in the Northeast and deal with floods on roads several times a year.

You should be okay without the bypass valve, unless you plan on driving through some mini rivers.
You would have to drive through a deep area of water to hydrolock the motor. If you lived in a different state where flooding was a problem. Or if your car was hella slammed then I would suggest you get the bypass valve. But you live in sunny O.C. so you should be okay.

Driving slow won't help if you're in water deep enough. The cai goes all the way down behind the driving light. The filter is only about 14-16" off the ground. I'd avoid any puddles over 8" to be safe...and do drive slow.

What about if its just raing normally outside? Sometimes it gets pretty wet on the roads. If i get on of those bypass valves, they have to cut the nice blue pipe, that would suck. If they do that, does it affect the prefomance any? Also, how hard is it to clean the K&N when its installed, is it easy to take out?

If you do find yourself in deep water. Immediately put your car in neutral and turn the ignition off. Let your car coast to a safe area. Do not gun the car while you are in a deep puddle, that will make it worse. If you gun the car you will be sucking more water in. I would keep a screwdriver in the car @ all times, If you need to you can always take the cai pipe off if you need to get through a flooded area. Then just reconnect it when you are in a safe area. It doesn't hurt to be prepared for the worst. The bypass valves supposedly rob a marginal amount of hp, I've never seen it on paper though.
The k&n can be removed by removing the splash guard that sits right under the k&n filter. It is fairly easy to access.

Normal rain won't do a thing to the cai/filter. The filter is pretty well protected by the splash guard underneath it. For us Californians, the bypass valve is a waste of money.

Wow. It still amazes me seeing the same questions coming up every week.
Come on people, lets try to start using the SEARCH functions, as well as the FAQ. This way not only will we get faster answers, but we wont flood the Car Talks section with questions that are answered already. Have a nice day.
