Accident with no insurance, need help.
Accident with no insurance, need help.
My friend got into an accident, while his insurance was expired. The car is totalled. He called up an insurance company today, and got insurance. Is there any way he can get out of this, without paying the whole thing out of his pocket?
Thanks,
Spiro

Insurance companies aren't stupid. If it was a small claim (less the $500) they might let it go. If a car is totaled they will get a copy of any police reports based on the VIN. This is in addition to any documentation your friend might provide (for example, a second police report filed after the insurance became effective). Sorry, your friend is screwed. If he tries to defraud the insurance company, and they find out, he'll be screwed twice.

Not that it matters, but...
What kind of vehicle was it, and what year?

Yeah I found out he did file a police report. He has no chance now.

All he has to do is offer the police a bribe to change the date on the police report then if that doesn't work he should bribe the insurance agent to pre-date the insurance policy. Or he could bribe the policeman to tear up the accident report and then report it stolen and have it found wrecked. All he has to worry about is the felony of bribing the police or insurance fraud - No worries...Go for it!
I can’t believe that some of the very same people here that BITCH all the time about high rates on their car are making suggestion on how to commit insurance fraud.
I’m no angel myself in all manors, but come on. The guy screwed up and he should pay the price.
I can imagine the conversation we would be having if this uninsured driver crashed into one of our cars and totaled it.
SAD :shakehd: :shakehd: :shakehd:

I don't know if I'd bribe a cop that's REAL risky. Some cops get PISSED(I've know guys that get pulled over for speeding and pull out a 100 dollar bill and said here keep this and pretend nothing happened They ARRESTED HIM RIGHT THEN AND THERE. impounded his car had to go to jail. so off hand I'd say he's screwed.I'm a firefighter we've had times with DUI(drunk driving) where this guy (he was smart while he was drunk believe it or not
) he hit the the side of the bridge and beside the bridge was about a 1 or 1.5 acres of woods. well this guy kept on say my buddy and kids we're in the car and they're in the woods somewhere. (we knew he was drunk so after he checked out with the EMTs they cuffed him) and had him wait near the our fire trucks/Ambulance(about 3-4 hours go by) there's nobody in this woods we've looked through it I bet 5-6 times. Here it finally dawned on me that he's "stalling" that way so he'll blow a lower BAC.(cause I think every hour you loose .02 or something like that) So turned to the cop and I said look we can't find anyone But quickly give him a Breathlizer test(I know they can do the line deal or touch your nose thing but the BAC holds up in court better). So they rushed him back to the cop station and he was just BEARLY over the limit(like the limit in ohio for now is .1 (but they're suppose to be changing it to .08) and he blew a .12 or .14 he wasn't over by much if it would have beeen another hour or 2 they would have had to let him go and just got him for failure to control.

Spiroh,
Most, if not all insurance will require that pictures be taken of the car prior to the car being insured. It's done to prevent someone from filing a claim on something that happened before the policy kicked in.

To echo what has been said: your friend is stupid and screwed.:shakehd:
BTW, it's illegal to drive without insurance (at least every state I've lived in) - did the cop issue a citation when he filed the report?
Also to echo Shawn S: I'd be quite pissed if this asshole crashed into me. Good thing I have uninsured motorist insurance, but this limits at $15K per incident (if I recall correctly).
No insurance - DON'T DRIVE!!! How could it be worth the headache?
