About tire pressure adjusting for drag racing

The service manager at my local Acura dealer is a drag-racing guru and an Acura expert. Alot of people say to drop your front tire psi to between 20-25. I told him I had mine at 24 psi my last run at the track, and he said that was part of the problem of not getting a better time and hopping alot off the line. He told me to never have the psi below 28, you'll actually lose traction if you have street radials. Street slicks and drag slicks are different, you can lower those more. Very underinflated tires on radials creates an uneven contact patch with the ground, resulting in less traction, more spin and wheel hop. Raising the back up to 40 psi is ok though. Thought I would pass on the info to others that believe lowering the psi to between 20 and 25 on front radial tires helps gain traction. I'll put it to the test this weekend and see if it holds true at the track.

well on Nov. 3 I ran four runs with the tire pressure at 27 psi in the front and 40 in the back. They were upper 14's and lower 15's. I adjusted to 32 psi front AND rear and ran a 14.67 (beat an souped up Eclipse turbo AWD) and then I ran my best E.T. so far with a 14.5153 at 97.4519 mph (and ran right with a Mustang GT with headers, exhaust, pulleys, air intake). I am pleased with the advice and will keep the air pressure the same unless I get slicks.

Nice runs!

Sorry that I couldn't make it. I had to play "tour guide" and take the in-laws to Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive! Nothing like driving 20 mph for 3 freakin' hours!
