95 eclipse GSX

My friend has been bugging me for the past month to race his GSX. He just got a new tranny and clutch. I don't know what kind of intake he has but he has one, and he also has 18"s on his car. Who do you think would win?

I just got my CL-S 6spd recently and I've already broken it in since I took a trip up to canada. My CL is stock.

It's a tough call.. my friend had a GSX, the all wheel drive sure can hook up if the driver knows what he's doing.. Plus the GSX is a bit lighter too..

The bottom lines is.. the driver. If you are a good driver, and very experience and comfortable with you 'new' CL, and the other driver is a so, so driver, then my money would be on you. But it this guy race at the track all the time, then you might have some problems. Remember, lighter + hookup = good of the line.

But you can always over take him in your 5th and 6th gear at top speed.

How far are you racing? Stoplight to stoplight you won't come close. I used to have a '95 GSX and let me tell you: 5000K rpm clutch drops from a stoplight are insane! Take him to a freeway and he won't be able to keep up. The traction advantage is negated plus there is a lot more drivetrain loss on the AWD tranny. This of course is under the assumption that he is running the T25 aka Revlon turbo.

i had a 97 gs-t

from my knowledge gs-t (non awd) - 6.5
gsx - 7

awd was actually slower then non -awd due to the weight

Ok in the racing threads i covered this already. My cousin had a 96 GSX and we always had at it. Off the line power when they dump the clutch, those cars can be animals. He will hand you your ass 0-40-50. When are vtec starts kicking in, we then hand them back there ass. They are monsters at lowend but, on highway they suck ass. If he is non modded, then you stand a VERY Good chance. OH hold on!! You have a 6spd. Man phuck that, BURN HIM!!!! I was doing that in a auto. Nevermind!

I had a 96 Talon Tsi AWD which is the same as the GSX.

I doubt his car is stock. These cars are so easy to modify! You pull a lip out on the wastegate and the boost adds 1.5 psi. There is 10-15 more HP. Put in a 1st gen BOV, there is another 5-10 HP.

It he is stock, you will prbably win assuming your driving skills are equal. Even so, it will be very close. Also, make sure you race at least to 80mph. From 0 to 40mph he will take you even if he is stock due to the AWD. Especially with a new clutch.

RSX vs Eclipse

My friend yesterday night in his RSX type S took my other friend in his Eclipse GSX for a run at a red light where there is an offramp and approxamately a 1 and 1/2 mile straight away. My friend has i/h/e in his rsx. Off the line the ecplise smoked the RSX and immediately gain almost 2 car lengths on him. They raced past 110 and my friend's rsx lost by a bumper. Then they did a second run this time the RSX got a better launch and in 3rd gear they were neck and neck but as soon as my friend's needle hit 6k in 3rd gear he was slowly walking away. They had one last run and the Eclipse won by a carlength.

All I gotta say is, I never raced my friend's RSX either but supposedly the RSX is slower than the CL-S but he has i/h/e so I'm not sure if I would win or not.

Basically, if he is stock, he is gonna lose....the GSX is gonna need to launch hard to hit even high 14s....if you up the boost to 15psi, and get a downpipe and freeflow...that thing will hit high 13s....but without a turbo upgrade...those things run out of steam very quickly.

Dropping the clutch at 5000 rpm will give you a good launch...but will destroy your transfer case in no time.

Naw... you'd burn through lots of clutches before you'd damage the transfer case unless you had some bad luck. Out of everyone that I knew who had 4bolt rearends on the <95 and 95-99 GSX's that went to the 1/4 strip, noone broke a transfer case. These cars ranged from 12-15s.
