75,000 mile Service in NNJ

Guys, it's time for my 75K service. I called Springfield Acura and they quoted me $329 and then I called Montclair Acura and was quoted $239.

Need I call back and see if they do the same things for that service? A 33% price difference seems fishy to me.

Anyone with experience in the area's dealers?

Thanks,
Elliot

I thought most dealers charge around $150 for the 75k service. That being said, you can do the service yourself. I believe the most work done in the service is oil and filter change.

Oh, and if you do decide to go to a dealer, go to Park Ave Acura, they are not too far from where you are. I think they are near the Paramus Mall.

generally most of the dealers do have different prices. I had the same thing happen to me. I went to Manhattan Acura and was quoted a different price than what the dealership in scarsdale gave me. A service guy at the scarsdale dealership told me this happens with dealers within the New York are. I guess Jersey too. I would call around some more. Than go with the Montclair acura

Replace engine oil, filter and drain plug washer with Genuine Honda Parts.

Inspect and rotate tires.

Inspect wiper blades.

Check/adjust fluid levels.

Road test.

Replace air filter with Genuine Honda Parts.

Inspect belts, hoses, fuel lines and exhaust system.

Inspect front and rear brake assemblies.

Inspect steering system, suspension components, alignment and parking brake.

-- all this inspecting seems like a cash cow for these shops..

sounds like I need:

- an oil and filter change
- check both rear and front brakes
- tire rotation and pressure check
- perhaps change my air conditioning filter too (which i did myself)

i can get my tires rotated and have the pressure checked at Sears for free.. is there anything else i should replace or have checked for my safety? some times my car feels a bit 'jerky' when i go from 1st to 2nd gear quickly.. I have no idea what that could be..

I don't know too much about this stuff (cant you tell?) and id rather be safe than sorry..

Elliot

I went to Park Ave for all of my services. I'd find out what the book said I needed, then let them know what I wanted (for example, I don't need a new air filter b/c I have a CAI. Also didn't need an oil change b/c I do my own and I use synthetics, etc).

Anyway, they're pretty much the only people I trust to work on my car....

dont go to springfield. they area abunch of shady people-at least when i was going to buy my car from them in 02' gave me the run a round, promised me cars/color combo's could be found, telling me what car i should buy, telling me the salesman i was originally working with was fired(he was the only reason i was there, cause he had done good for my two friends...blah blah blah
they told me i would have to wait 6 weeks for my car, after they promised me that week it would be in that week and i had sold my car in anticipation
went to bridgewater acura and got the same car in 3 days at $40 less per month
wouldn't trust them, but maybe things have changed

hmmm, sounds like the Acura tansmission w/ approx. 75K....

i would take your car to a mechanic you TRUST. Tell them to do the basic fluid and filter changes and look for anything else that could become problematic....

if your not sure of how much you trust someone, go to PAA and drop the name of someone on this board that recommends them (not me, someone who has used them before)

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks guys.. I appreciate the help.

Well, can anyone drop me a name or two who has gone to PAA and been satisfied? I know MANY people have but if I call, I'd like a name they'd recognize :-)

Whatever happened to Jens? He's not around any longer?

Thanks again.

I bought my CL-s from Montclair and won't go there anymore for service -- lots of runaround, promised loaners that aren't there, long waits for appts, half the job getting done...

went to Park Ave and they were much more efficient, but tried to sell me a timing belt and a water pump at 68K. be careful.

I usually deal with Frank or Peter when I go there. Both guys are great and both will take care of you. They know me better as Juniorbean rather then my real name... so you can just say Juniorbean from the CL board... and they'll know.

Good luck

I get most of my work done at Springfield. They're pretty helpful. I think most of the stuff you need done, you can do yourself or will be a lot cheaper at a local machanic.

Aside from the routine stuff, all it is is realy checking stuff over. You can do pretty much all of it yourself, or most of it, and have a mechanic do the rest.
