i just came back from a long highway trip in my 01 cls 5at, teinss, CT headers, Greddy EVO exhaust, AEM CAI. in 4th gear on a straightaway,revs past 4000 rpm, full trottle, hits about 4750 rpm, then the tach drops to about 4300 rpm while still under full throttle, still accelerating. has anyone ever encountered this before??????????/

 

I wonder if it is the tach or if the torque converter is locking up which I didn't think it was supposed to under WOT.

 

what scalbert said.. it is normal.. you shouild have downshifted to 3rd in this case.

 

if he was at 4750 at wot the verter shouldnt lock up.

 

Well, fourth gear is techinically an overdrive gear along with 5th... so it's possible the torque convertor did lock up which dropped the RPMs.....

 

since 4th and 5th gear are o/d gears, is that why 3rd gear is a fav?
