447 miles on a tank full, could it be a record?

Just this week I started a 56 mile one way commute. I am very pleased with the gas mileage my CLS returned. Of the 56 miles about 6 miles of it is stop and go city driving. The rest is all interstate. Once on the intersate I set the cruise at 75 mph and don't have the AC running (I love this cool time of year). I'm in Florida so there are no hills to speak of. The car has 6,500 miles on it and I use fresh non synthetic Quaker State. In the past I was shocked at how bad the gas mileage was, but with an economy state of mind the CLS will get decent gas mileage too. However, as you know it is difficult to remain in that state of mind with this car.

Beats my record!! I've gotten 418mi on a tank but the low fuel light had only been on 15 miles or so. I think I could go as much as 500. That was only 30.1mpg on that tank too. I know the CL-S can get 32 in some situations.

I think its entirely possible in a Type-S...if you keep your foot out of it.

I track every gallon going in with my palm so I have a database of all mileages, mpgs, etc.

The most miles I've seen between fills was 406.8 mi, 15.315 gallons, giving 26.6 mpg.
Almost 2 gallons left. odo had 15,414 miles on it. Note that the gauge needle was laying directly on top of the 'E' line.

In July,(a/c on full auto)coming back from having gone up north to take my 12 yr old to camp (~180 miles 1-way) plus 1.5 trips to work-and-back (~153 miles)... (odo read 6,190) I got 29.8 mpg on 11.122 gallons with 331.3 miles. This was mostly interstate at 80+ (a bunch over 100 until the wife awoke & asked why the telephone poles looked like a picket fence ). She had a few comments about all the 'slow' cars we were passing. "Sightseers" I said.

If you get 29.0 for 16 gallons you get 464 miles. Very doable. A few guys quoted 30+ on h-a.net if I recall correctly.

The wife would probably get 35. In '92 we took my then 6-week old '92 SHO to Fla. I never got better than 26. She got 28 consistently.

Prior to December, I've gotten around 26 mpg on the work loop as a rule of thumb. Its dropped to about 24 with the onset of cold weather (highs in the 20s, maybe, frequently single or sub-zero when leaving in the morning). My '92 SHO showed about the same mpg drop in these conditions. In the Type-S, just doing a couple full-throttle to 80+ on-ramp charges each day will chip a couple mpg off a tank, easily.

Oh well. I guess I am relegated to the low 20's crowd...
