350z vs CL-S ?? does the cl stand a chance?

So a friend of mine got an 07 350z, solar orange.. auto. Has the nismo dual intake, and borla exhaust. and changed his differential gear so it's got slightlllyyy shorter gears.

dynoed 262whp with those mods yesterday.

Think once i get my plenums, tb spacer... and them headers.. I will stand a chance?

Just curious... i think our motors have a bigger power band than the 350 but i could verywell be wrong.

Anyone got any experience testing 350's with the CL-s?

Sorry you loose. Time for boost.

Even a 6 speed would have trouble.

350s aren't necessarily all that fast - but you're outmatched without boost. You might get one on the expressway from 50-80 or something depending on the gearing, but remember that they're high 13 second cars from the factory.....

Driver's race, imo. You guys aren't giving the J32A2 enough credit.

I have a nitrous-fed 275whp S2000 that runs low 13s. I edge out 350s in it, without getting on the 50hp wet shot, but not by any overwhelming amount. Compare that to a car making 220whp and weighing another 1000lbs....

I'd try my luck in my highly modified CLS-6 - but wouldnt expect to do anything but keep up. The VQ torque will kill you off the line if you don't nail every shift.

I don't know about the auto 350z since I hate the auto's but I used to have a 07' 350z with the VQHR35DE engine and they're very quick. They are low 13 second cars. Some guys have hit 13.1@107mph stock! I used to beat S4's and E46 M3's with it. So with all those mods, I don't think you can beat a 07' Z.

There automatics, how much of a drivers race could it be?

A J32A2 is a J32A2, it is what it is.

CLS 3500 lbs + 260 hp + 232 tq (And thats not even SAE)

350Z 3300 lbs, + 306 hp + 268 tq

Should be no contest, especially with his rear end change.

But who knows.

Wow! you guys dont give the cl-s6 any love lol!!
I ran my friends (04)350z 6speed with 280whp and pulled about a car
BUT they are fast from 0-70 but after that nope...

Also did a run with a G37 6speed w/ testpipe and intake(292whp I think) and I pulled about 1/2 car and that guy can drive

My mods : Intake, exhaust , header and headwork

I think with a header, intake and good exhaust u will be ok

From a dig you have no chance. From a roll you have a better chance but still not looking good for you. Those HR 350Z's even with the auto are high 13 second cars without the mods. Your car with I/H/E/P is a low 14 second car at best and you don't even have those mods. Run him anyway though. It will be interesting to see how well you do! Good luck!

If you had a 6psd CL-S you would do alot better!

lol... well i got the 01 cl-s so no stick for me.. but I got a feeling mine isn't one of the slow ones dynoing like under 200whp. I say i do all bolt on mods and I should be at 250whp Intake/Headers/comptech exhaust/plenums/ tb spacer/ pulley.

Either way I'm gonna dyno my car in 2-3 weeks and race buddy from a bunch of speeds to see how much he pulls on me.

I got a feeling everyone is second guessing the cl... it looks bad on paper to compare the 2, but this car has much more respect than most ppl give it.

a Stock CL not type S can beat a volvo v70R auto... which has 300tq and 300hp... I did that YEARS back when my mom had bought a brand new 01 blue cl-p. That thing took out benz c230 kompressor 6 speed, bmw 330ci, volvo v70R, and a few other of my rich friends rides.. at the time.

SO this car can hold it's own.

I'm gonna get some video footage for everyone... then we'll see what's really UP

I don't think anyone is second guessing the CL. Its just that power to weight ratio and torque to weight ratio don't lie! I hope you kick his arse though!

I call BS on that. The other driver sucked or their car had problems. Even with all my mods & light rims I keep up with modded 350's not beat them.

either way I'm getting that footage to see what's up... hopefully dyno my car b4 as well so we can see what the cars look like on paper and racing each other.

I say he pulls on me a lil bit but then when i get the headers, it'll b tight. He is a bad driver lol he better not use tiptronic. he could find a way to screw up

Does OP have an automatic or a 6 speed? I assumed he was 6 speed. I don't know why he's trying if he's automatic.

This is a CRAPPY video I took with my phone today to get an idea of how quick my CL was running. It's actually just shy of a second quicker to 60 than before according to the GPS / GTech meter. I'm still not used to shifting the new setup.

CL-S6
14,000 mile Auto Motor (probably the lowest mile running CL in existence)
AEM CAI
Stainless Headers
P2R Test Pipe
Comptech AxleBacks
P2R Throttle Body Spacers
P2R Throttle Body Thermal Gasket
P2R Intake Manifold Thermal Gasket
Razco Lightweight Accessory Pulleys
Razco Lightweight Crank Pulley
AASCO Flywheel
ClutchMasters Stage 1 Disc
ClutchMasters Pressure Plate
Throttle Body Coolant Bypassed
Tokico 5 Way Adjustables
H&R 2inch drop springs
235/45/17 Hankook HR2
NGK Iridiums

I can get it moving alot faster than that by rev matching the shifts and powering through - but everythings still seating up. Hard to hold phone and drive too...lol.

didn't you find you lose top end pull with the flywheel... on my ford probe when i got the fidanza flywheel it shaved 20 km/h off my top speed.

Have u dynod ur car with all those mods on or..?

I just wanna see that 250WHP number... i have a feeling i'll need one more thing to surpass that.. but maybe NOT

if that guy was 6 speed there is known issue of 350z - slipping clutch. my friend's 350z ran 14.5-14-7 stock but he isnt a best driver. with a 6 speed u could have chance. i ran 14.3 stock

I'm not running it 120mph - but if anything it's much stronger from 4k to redline and much weaker from rev to 4k.

I literally just got it put back together. Comptechs went on today and seemed to help with the low end. ECU hasn't had time to learn everything yet.

I'm pursuing

2.5 Stainless exhaust with Magnaflow resonator. There is power to be made there. I don't want some weld on job, I want something with flanges.

Port and Polish J32A2 intake manifold and ported / polished throttle body / throttle spacer / port matching the manifold.

A PnP manifold should be able to give the air this engine wants.

I need something to let me get the VTEC engaging sooner - it's got the means to run on the high cam lobe at much lower RPMs than the stocker did.

I'm not certain what the valvetrain can handle, but I bet it would make power all the way to 7700 if not beyond.

I would gain a few HP with Comptech headers.

I anticipate an untuned 290 - 300 crank hp. I would guess with a VAFC, I could get that to 315 with some dyno time.

WOT from 4000 to 7100 is sick now. Recover some grunt down low and this car is running mid 13s all day, all motor.

A TL running 13.6 on the bottle would be trapping better than that.

Nitrous is fun and all, but $45 to fill it up everytime you want to play a few times.

I had a 03 cls 6mt, with ct intake, exhaust and xs power headers.
I now have a 03 350z 6mt with tt.....when the z was stock it still was faster and pulled a lot stronger off the line.
With your race esp with the 350 having the HR motor i'de say kinda close but your gonna lose

LOL naw man my car looks stock aside from being debadged (check my garage u'll see)... i'm dumping $$ into HP and fixing my rear suspension and performance rotors.

I hear insurance now goes up if you lower your car from stock height... So that's super BALZ and is why i'm prolly just gonna buy stock cl-s rear suspension form the dlr. get the rsb from progress and new links and then i should have decent cornerind... right now I have SUPER sway due to a rear strut on it's way OUT.

Car handles soo bad at highway speeds if u jerk the wheel, it's honestly dangerous.

I wish it were just bad sway bar links but they're not messed up at all visually... DAMNIT.. so i gotta spend 500 on the rear shock assemblies and 300 on the rsb and new links. So 800

Ahh w/e small price to pay for safety/driving confidence

from my experience against a 350z at the track... it will get you from off the line and you will get close where it looks like your front bumper could hit his rear bumper, but the the 350z keeps pulling and it will frustrate you b/c he will always be just out of your reach unless he screws up shifting or something.

I wish it were just bad sway bar links but they're not messed up at all visually... DAMNIT.. so i gotta spend 500 on the rear shock assemblies and 300 on the rsb and new links. So 800

Ahh w/e small price to pay for safety/driving confidence
how would your insurance ever know what u did to the car, unless u get into an accident or something. i dont see how it can go up unless u tell them

Whats up with all of these CL VS ____ threads popping up...

How could you even compare the two in the first place?!

Other than having a backseat, but who needs those anyways.

Can we please put an end to this madness and just get our sh!t back on track? lol

Quick Reply: 350z vs CL-S ?? does the cl stand a chance?
