2003 CL Type S Auto Occasional Issue Starting Up + Check Engine, VSA and /!\
2003 Acura CL Type S Auto with 108k miles
Tranny replaced at 62k miles
Here is a scenario that has happened about 3 or 4 times over the past 3 months.
I start my car up in the morning, drive for an errand about 10min. away
and turn car off. No issues.
I return to my car about 10-20min later, start up, and then after engine turns over, it last for about 5 sec. before chugging down to a dead engine. I pull keys out, wait about 15 sec., try again, same issue..won't fully start and stay on.
Usually by the 4th time I try it, and I rev the engine, I can get it to stay on, and it works normally for several days or even weeks without issue.
One time this happened and then the Check Engine, VSA and /!\ lights came on when it died. Those lights went away later that day. I've read that those lights usually appear when the tranny is dying soon, but so far it's been fine except maybe for a rougher idle.
Any thoughts?
I'm wondering about the ignition, a coil, spark plugs..... not sure. Battery is pretty new. Thanks

Have you had the 105K service? That would play a major factor if not done. Otherwise I would say a coil pack, because you said it was a rough idle, and that's just what mine did.

If the problem is only present at idle, I would clean the IAC valve first. I don't remember getting any check engine light when mine was dirty, but I did have intermittent idle problems/stalling out.
Alternatively, if your engine codes show misfires on multiple cylinders, I would bet on a bad ignition coil. At least it's easy enough to diagnose and discount that theory.
