2001 Owners - Would you trade in your ride for a 6-Speed CL ???
#41
Makes sense. I just learned the Ferrari F1 has a computerized manual. How about a manual that doesn't have a clutch? Like they have in racing. It operates the same way our SS does, but instead of manually controlling an automatic, it would actually engage the clutch, shift and disengege. I guarantee, no human would be able to outshift a computer, I don't care how good you think you are.
If Kasparov (sp??) can loose to a PS/2, some little chip could outshift you.
If its good enough for racing, its good enough for me.

No spoiler. No NAV either. No fat chics.
no "phat" chics either.

Would not trade in my CLS for 6 speed CLS. Love the auto/SS on my CLS. Have been shifting gears for almost 40 years. Now I let my CLS shift the gears most of the time. When I want to play I use the SS mode on my CLS or take my 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta for a drive.

Maybe if the SS were more manual I'd like it better. I want faster response and no automatic shifting in SS mode EVER. I hate that it ignores my 2-3 shift sometimes. With the SS, if you try to shift at red line with WOT, the revs climb into the red zone while preparing to shift. Maybe the computer should stop accelerating for the 1/2 second it takes to prepare to shift. (The way a stick driver would) D5, D4, and D3 are for automatic shifting. SS should be manual. Not automatic with driver suggestions.

I equate Shawn's position to this analogy. He likes to feel the thrill of controlling the car and thinks (which is his right) that he can make decisions about gear choices better (in his opinion) than a computer can.
My opinion: I spend too much time in traffic and don't need the hassle and expense of a manual.

Yes for now. That is, until I make all the mods planned this spring it would be a gimme type decision. After that, no way b/c I'll have too much into it.
