2001 CL-S Auto vs. 2000 Ford Contour SVT 5 Spd
I just installed my Comptech Icebox (my first performance mod) this past weekend with the help from my brother and when I was done, decided to test it out by racing his Contour SVT. He has an air intake as the only engine mod and Centerline rims to help a little with weight.
We drove around looking for red lights, and finally found one. Off the line he jumped on me by a couple of feet and we both had our wheels spinning (had my VSA turned off). Between 30 and 40mph I pulled on him and past him, from which point on I had a clear advantage (a couple car lengths). We slowed down once we reached 70 (the cops in VA are VERY strict). We tried it once more at another red light, this time I turned my VSA on to see what difference would occur. He got a much better jump start on me this time, and had me until 50mph, then I passed him. Overall, I was pretty impressed by the Contour SVT's performance. I expected to smoke him, but instead had two close races (considering these weren't high-speed races).
I haven't raced a lot in my CL-S (this is my second race total in it) and this is the first engine mod I have ever done to any vehicle I've owned. I did notice an increased throttle response with the icebox installed, plus it's fairly close to stock in sound, as many members have stated. This website is great! The DIY instructions for the icebox helped a bunch and saved me a bunch of $$. Thanks Acura-CL.com members!

nice runs! also, thank you for being easy to understand and well spoken in your thread....
and i am sure you already know, but if you would have had a high speed race, you would have pulled very hard on the countour svt.
