2001 Acura CL Type S Tranny swap
Hey guys i'm new to Acurazine and i was wondering if anyone on here knows if it is possible to get a manual transmission swapped for my car? Im pretty sure from what i have read that the 2003 Cl was the only car like mine that had a manual.
Thanks in advance!

That's a lot of work to swap an auto to a manual. I did some research on which tranny I'm going to get to replace the auto CL if or when it goes out. While I was searching I came across a thread where someone detailed out steps on their swap to a manual. I could be wrong but I thought it was here. I certainly wish I had a manual, but I'm stuck with an auto. If I have to do my tranny, I'll probably swap out the motor for a 3.5L at the same time.

I considered swapping my auto to a manual. After doing a lot of research, I put this mod on the back burner You might as well just sell your CL-S for a CL-S6 and save yourself the hassle, time, and money. I considered doing this, but have put too much money into modifications for my CL-P. If I swap my auto to manual (which is the plan once my tranny drops again), I will also swap my motor for a 3.5L and install a turbo!

Whats up with RDX owners?

Yup. I always wonder if my manual is going to drop down to second on the highway on its own...

Having done an auto to manual swap(not on a CL but a different FWD car), I'd highly recommend just looking for a manual equipped car. It can be done, but its not terribly easy and things just wont be quite right ever.

nope, not at all, manuals are over-rated, especially if you live in nyc!! Look at drag races, you think they're manual transmissions? our cl-s auto tranny handles boost better than manual! Bet your bottom dollar auto cl-s vs. Manual cl-s, auto wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or maybe some people just enjoy being able to select which gear they are in and like that extra connection. I know you can do that with the auto stick sortof, but thats just not the same. The main reason I prefer manual trans is to keep my wife out of the drivers seat lol. She's got her own car to tear up.

You will find, if you attempt the swap, that if you are doing it the first time (no previous experience with swapping manual transmissions for automatics) that the task will be very difficult, expensive, time consuming, and in the end a disappointment for all the work, time and money you've put into it. You will be far far better off just selling the automatic car and buying a 2003 manual transmission car. It will cost you less, it will take far less time, and the car you end up with will have all the right parts in the all the right places and will work as its supposed to. You'd be a damned fool to do it any other way.
By the way, those drag race cars that are using automatic transmissions to turn the fabulous times they do are certainly not using the automatic transmissions we have in our cars and the notion that an automatic handles a turbo's boost better is not only absurd its also utterly immaterial because no one is talking about a turbocharged car in this case.

You do realize it depends on the driver. Look at any spec sheet of any car from any car magazine 99% of the time the manual trans equipped car is faster. But 99% of people can't drive. . .Drag transmissions are far from the one you have in your car btw, the design is completely different because they are purpose built most are glides or two speed hi lo transmissions.

We need a sticky for the auto to manual swap question. Just needs to say "Yes it can be done but it's more work than it's worth. Sell your car and buy a manual if you want a manual."
