1st DIY oil change this weekend

Took my car out of winter storage and changed the oil this weekend. Relatively easy to change the oil in our cars. All the info I got from the board was spot on.

- Turn wheel to right to get at filter.
- 18 mm drain bolt.

I just used the car jack. Only had to raise the car a few inches.

Put in Valvoline synthetic 5-30 that I got for free when someone on the board posted a message about a rebate being offered. Used a Bosch filter that I got for free at Auto Zone.

So, if anyone is on the fence about changing your own oil, give it a try it's pretty easy on our cars.

Thanks to those folks that posted info on this topic.

Paul

Sweet! Good to see people doing their own work!

But i wouldnt trust the stock car jack, get something else. They are pretty cheap to buy now.

Good job. I just use one of the oil extractors. 15 minutes and no need to jack the car up. They work pretty good.

It sucks the oil out from above. You just shove the tube down the dipstick shaft and get at the oil that way, instead of going underneath and taking off the drain bolt. Keeps things a lot cleaner. Just have to use a plastic baggy when taking off the filter.

DAMN...that's a good idea, I was trying to figure out why oil was running down my arm every time I changed the filter. The filter has been at an angle on all my other cars, so I never had to get all dirty.

Can the oil extractor also be used for tranny fluid? I know I will still have to get under to change the filter but that can save me from getting messy.

Hate to tell you, but the drain bolt is 17mm...but that doesn't matter if you're extracting.

Ok, 17 mm it is. I had my socket set out and tried a couple. Maybe a Moderator can update my post so no one gets the wrong size.
