1st -> 2nd Shift Isn't Chirping

Hey boys and girls,

Here's my situation:

I've really babied shifting my 2nd tranny since I had the original replaced at 78k miles (haven't been to the track since). I'm at 120k on the odometer now.

I installed the Thermoblock spacers a couple weekends ago and just replaced the spark plugs over the weekend with new NGK Iridiums. It feels like it's running really strong.

So, I decided to go ahead and rip thru the shifts a few times over the last couple days. Before the tranny replacement, I'd have really chirped going into 2nd gear. Now, I get no chirp.

Is it the reprogrammed ECU they installed during the tranny replacement (softening the shift), or is it that I've actually lost that much power somehow?

Anyone else notice this?

Deez

i punch it out of the hole every now and then and i notice that sometimes in sportshift, it either has a really big ass screech of tires or none at all when the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd. i have noticed that it depends on the smoothness of the road and or the incline/decline. but i do have it do the big screech 3 out of 5 times. so, go figure. btw, this is my 2nd tranny too.

I might be exagerrating a bit -- it'll chirp depending on the road, etc. -- but definitely not bust 'em loose like it used to. of course, it's way hot down here and that means 1) less HP and 2) stickier tires. maybe it's in my head, but it definitely doesn't seem to skip as much during the shift.

Many members have perceived a loss of performance with a replacement transmission from Acura. I'm a 6MT owner so I don't follow these issues too closely, but if you do a search you should be able to find more info.

It's just the new transmission. They all shift differently. Have you replaced the tires since you previously went WOT and tried to chirp the tires?

I was supercharged in my automatic with 295whp and I would NEVER chirp the 1 -> 2 shift.

Weird. I didn't notice a bit of difference with my tranny change. It squeeled nicely on my Kumho's on stock wheels, and with my 19"s with Cooper Zeon 2XS', it chrips, but not as well as with the 17"s. But it'll only chirp if I take off the VSA. Won't do it with VSA engauged.

please do a search. this has been brought up many times. the car just shifts better with the new tranny, thus less tire chirps because the car isnt shifting abruptly anymore. all the ecu does is decrease power before it shifts to make it smoother. you are probably not losing any power at all.

auto tranny chirping? I beleive it would have to upshift pretty harshly for that to happen and on bad tires. driving a manual you could do it, not on auto though

enough people have said that it's the new tranny that's keeping it from busting loose like it did in the past, so i'd be happy to see this thread

It is VERY common on the automatic transmission to chirp 1 -> 2 shift.

you can chirp the tires by letting off the gas alittle in top of first and gunning it when its about to shift if your desperate .. but then kiss your tranny goodbye

its no big deal if you can chirp your tires on the 1-2 shift or even the 2-3 shift. Thest best thing for your car and best performance is a smooth transition through gears in order to properly get the power to the ground in the quickest, best manner

My car can chirp 1 -> 2. But it's only chirped into 3rd once and that was on a cold night with cold stock tires.
