Is the 15000 mile service worth doing

At $169.95 is seem a bit of a rip off. Only two things seem important, LOF and tire rotation. The other items are just checking and lubing. What do you guys think? I did check my tranny fluid and it looked fine. Dave

I think they're all a rip off until the 30k service. That one is expensive too, but it is a major service, so it's at least somewhat acceptable. I did the 7500 myself and I'll probably bring it to a Honda/Acura service shop that I know to change the tranny fluid. The rest I'll do myself......

Fuck all the service things. They are just a way to make the dealership more $$$.

The only thing I did @30K was transmission fluid change.

The other shit is pointless.

I change my oil on time EVERY Time, use only Mobil 1, and get my tires rotated every other time.

Its covered under warranty if something goes wrong.

If it is a ripoff I will bring it to a tire shop…..

3 quarts of Honda ATF fluid = 13 bucks
6 quarts (case) of Synthetic oil = 30 bucks (more or less)
Oil filter = 5-10 bucks

Do it yourself. Remember, when they do a tranny fluid "change" it's only 2.7 quarts, the amount that actually drains out. The rest, nearly 5 quarts stays in. Check the Acura Service manual and it'll tell u just that. I did the tranny fluid and oil chnage myself. Granted I have a friend who access to lifts to make it easier, but don't pay until the 30k service

My Acura dealrship quoted me 40$ for tire rotation, I got it done else where for 20$, but then they forgot to tighten my bolts. good thing i noticed it early enough. But what are the chances that Acura mechanics will not do the same mistake?...

The only issue is the little yellow maintenance light...

Anyone know how to re-set it?

Hateme,
Look in the manual. It's really simple. I did the other day, when it came on to remind me of my 45,000 lube (screw job) appointment ! Wanna trade services due ?

I just got my 15k done at Island Acura for $189, its a rip off. I bought my car at Rally Acura and they wanted $310 to do it. Its nuts. They only reason I went to acura was because I wanted them to fix some rattles under warranty (moonroof and rear window). So I figured I would get it all done at once and get a loaner out of it too. I am only going back there for the 30k, I dont even want to know how much Rally will charge for that one. Probably end up sticking to Island Acura.

I had mine changed at 15K because I didn’t know I was ditching the car so soon.
I think I paid an additional 40 bucks or so.

My 15k mile maintaince is coming up and I've only had the car since july ....too much damn driving but who can blame me i love my cls . But Today i got really pissed when i went by the local honda dealer to ask how much a 30k mile maintance for his 2k accord would be and they told me it would be 290 + tax and my mouth dropped to the floor and walked back out . Does a 30k mile maintaince cost this much or is it just more BS .

At local Acura/Honda only service shops like www.mechanicsdirect.com you pay only 50% or less for even better service dealer... Another proof that dealers are ripping off everyone.. we are not cheap... dealers are not resonable.

Could you explain:

Why I had to pay $3 for the underbody aplash gaurd "clip"... It is just a plastic clip but for $3 that is crazy.....

$5 for 2 crush washer for the AT plugs, 2 rounds metalic rings worth 15 cents....

Could you explain why an Oil Change is charged at $29.99 when a local Acura speciallity service shop is charging $10. (Reguler oil 5-30 Honda Filter, same as the dealer)....

And more and more examples....

you can analyze alot of goods and service business and you will get a broad range of prices, taken into account (even though its an oil change) technician training, computer software, new computers, any other special tools, building maint and overhead, health care, liability insurance, but i can tell you i get calls every day from garages trying to repair cars, and they always call a dealer when they can't figure something out, you get what you pay for - i do understand however we are talking oil changes, so in a nutshell, it should be cheap, but like i said there are things behind the prices alot of people don't see

I personally don't like the acura dealership in my town its service sucks and the people there are nothing but asses to be b/c i'm young so therefore they think they can take advantage of me and shit So that is why I dont take shit to them b/c they don't deserve any of my hard earned money . I was thinking about getting my tranny fluid changed early at 15k and i'm definitly not gonna take it to them to do it ..i might buy the honda transmission fluid from them thats about it and take it to another shop and let them do it b/c they actually know how to treat customers with RESPECT something the acura dealership around here doesnt know how to do !

My Acura dealership put to much oil in my engine, it was 1/4 inch above the full mark. ( And I checked it just like described in the manual ). This is probably not a big deal, but it shows me that people who did oil change did not care, they just poured approximate amount without precisely calibrating the level oil.
My Acura charged 30$ for regular oil change, this is more than most local lube shops... and what do u get in return? they can't even put the right amount of oil.... they don't care .... just poure oil in and that's it...

russiandude, unfortunately that can happen from any shop, but i see your point, when you pay more you expect more, i agree 100% with you there, but it could have been an oversight, (but then get back to i paid more for no oversights) it always looks bad if a dealership makes a mistake (which can and will happen because were all human) but you would think with the higher prices training and all the stuff i preach that it would not happen

In SoCal all the Acura dealers have to compete with each other so the prices aren't too bad. Oil changes run about 20 here and tire rotations cost 20 also. Still a rip sometimes...

i can't believe that rotations are 20 bucks out there, ours are only $7.95 for just a rotation, we usually reccomend a rebalance of the front wheels and the whole thing is usually 22.90 for rotation and balance fronts

How about 40$ at Sussman Acura in Morestown, NJ.
40$ includes tire balancing, its rediculous. They want you to balance your tires every 7500 miles.
And when I asked "How about just rotating tires without balancing?" The service guy was like "Our tire rotation includes balancing" ???!! They gave me no choice but to go elsewhere.
I agree that we should follow good maintance, but sometimes those dealers just want you to spend money on things you do not need..... Why would you re-balance tires every 7500 miles?? rotation is enough, maybe one balance at 25K miles... but not every 7500 miles... I have never heard that anyone re-balances tires every 7500 miles... ? And why can't they have a cheaper service which does not include re-balancing?

O yeah, and every time I come to my dealership, some stupid women sits at the front desk and she tries to explain to me things that I need to do for my car.
She was like "You know that you missed your 7500 miles service?"
So I was like "I changed oil and did tire rotation, nothing else is needed"
So she is like "well, actually it is recommended to have a service checkup which has more things than oil change blah blah...."
They act smart and stuff, but in reality she has no idea what she is talking about, they just want to "sell". so they try to scare you, once she told me that I changed my synthetic oil at 6K miles, and I should do it at 3K.
I wanted kick her ass, I spent hours on internet researching when I should change oil, reading for hours articles on oils and etc... and she tries to tell me what I should do??

I agree that as the tread wears out, tires need to be re-balanced.
But 7,500 miles seems to offten. I figured this, how much is one Michelline tire? 100-120$ buks?
Lets say I spend 40$ every 7500 miles. By the time I make 50000 miles I will spend 270$ just for rotation & re-balancing !!!
For 270$ I can buy at least 2 brand new Michelline tires, you see my point?
I wish I had your dealership near by, 7.95, or 20$ including re-balancing is awsome

Thanks russiandude, we really try as a dealer, with maint or simple things that anyone can do, i think a dealer should be competative on the prices, if you have to have a high rate it should be on "A" skill jobs

Agreed, the more you pay - the more you expect in return. Premium services needs a premium pay and premium quality.

Guess what... when I did go to do some warranty work and buy some 30k service parts... The service rep wanted to make more money by offering a front rotor resurfacing and new brake pads...

I did not complain, as the last time they wanted me to pay for it...Now it is okay with them if Acura pays for it.

BTW, I asked the service rep: "Are you busy?, how is the business?" He replied: "In the last couple months, it was kind slow" So, I was not surprised when they offerd more warranty work.
