14 mpg pleaseee help me out
i love my 03 cl-s but the gm is so messed up...ive been testing it for a few months now and its getting no better than 14 mpg....Take it I only do city driving and rarely on the highway. I drive it like a baby. I cant squeeze out more than 230 miles per tank...what gives...I got new airfilter...I put gas treatmeamt...I called acura and they didnt know what to tell me....they said if the egr was messed up it would throw check engine light....anyone else have this problem...the reason I got rid of my camaro was cause the shitty gas milliage and now this car is gettgin no better. car has 75k....i also pulled the plus and they ae fine.

When I saw my gas mileage go down, all I used was Techron and the mileage went back up. It burns off carbon deposits on your engines working internals...
My guess is...carbon build up.
You have a high performance engine, rap that bitch out to get the crud out. (High RPM shifting, can almost gaurantee you'll see some smoke come out of your pipes if you notice between shifting.)

I usually get 14 mpg in the city too. I figured that this is the best I can get with this engine. Acura CL was never great on mile per galon. Its 3.2 liter type-S and S stands for Sucking a lot of gas. That’s what I always thought S stands for. Ill start using Chevron with Techron gass stations and see if I can get better gas miles.

That's all I use.
14mpg in the city? I get damn near 20-21 mpg in the city.

Its Def. Gotta Be A Sensor Or Gas Problem. I Just Got My Car, And On Its First Full Tank Of Gas At Shell, I Got 280 Miles, Now On The Second Tank From The Mobile Station,i Only Got 200. On The First Tank I Didnt Run The Air And I Used The Manual Mode, And On The Second I Just Cruised Around With The Air On And Never Shifted, So Maybe The Driving Has Some To Do With It As Well...BUT MY MAINTENANCE LIGHT JUST CAME ON AS WELL, SO DUNNO?........good Luck

I'm lucky if I can break 210 miles per full tank on both my old CL-S auto with 50k miles and my new CL-S 6 speed with 16k miles, same shit. Doesn't help that I am 90% city driving, and 10% stop and go traffic on the parkways. I also like to drive her into VTEC, and NY gas sucks. I've noticed when I fill up from Jersey, I get better miles to the gallon. Also, My city, yonkers, I alllllll hills.

i just filled up my first tank since buying my car and i get 18.78 mpg with mostly city and some freeway driving. i punched it a few times to 4-6k rpm to test out the vtec and actuator. btw: still cant feel it that well, although i think i felt it because i was using SS mode and when i gassed it, the car sounded like it down shifted and the engine noise came louder but i didnt downshift what do you guys think. sry about stealing the thread

Gas also plays a major role. Winter gas really sucks, there is too many additives in it.

Also elevation plays a part in gas mileage. The higher the elevation, the amount of oxygen in the air decreases, increasing the air/fuel ratio, which decreases gas mileage. Also, the other way around, the lower the elevation, there is a greater amount of oxygen in the air, which decreases the air/fuel ratio, which increases gas mileage considerably.

Like those guys said, I'd experiment with different gas stations. I've already seen a big difference between this week and last in MPG for me. Last week Mobil, this week Chevron. Mobil netted me about 3-4 more MPG than Chevron this week so far.

I don't know what's wrong with all of you... I got over 450 miles on my last tank (mostly freeway). But still the whole time I've had this car (since it's was new) I've averaged 28.4 mpg with a best of 32.8! There's nothing wrong with the car or engine... slow down, and stop wasting fuel rapidly accelerating for no reason.
by the way, starting in 2008 the EPA is going to change the way fuel mileage is reported on the window sticker. It is going to more 'accurately' report the 'real world' gas mileage numbers due to the number of drivers who 'speed, accelerate rapidly, and otherwise waste fuel' and then complain when they're not getting what the car was 'rated'. I believe it should show what the car is capable of on a standard driving cycle, not what everyone who speeds and floors it because they're impatient and in a hurry achieves. It's like they're saying it's okay to drive like an idiot and waste fuel, not here... shoot for these numbers. I don't know I've always been able to get slightly better than a car was rated, but I guess I'm all alone on that. You guys will have to tell me why everyone is always in a hurry and floors it everywhere and then acts all surprised when you get 14mpg in a Honda. ANYWAY, expect the city/highway numbers to be 8-25% lower on the window stickers in 2008.

bmehiling,
There are a few things that could be screwing your performance. I have a 6mt cls and I dog the accelerator once she is smoothly in gear often. I get 18-20mpg in the city. I get 26mpg on the interstate with some crazy accelereation. The upper intake manifold has a upper cover plate you can open by removing the chrome bolts on the top of the upper intake manifold. It is a known problem that this EGR plumbing can become completely clogged in as little as 30000 miles. mine was completely clogged at 80000 miles the first time I checked it when I installed my thermoblock spacers. I had to use a coat hanger to clean it out. solvents did nothing. I got a major performance improvement when I put it back together. The car idled so much better. i also soaked the IAC in SeaIfoam, brushed it and the car ran so much better. if this is clogged it may not throw a CEL. Clean the whole upper intake minifold by dissasembleing it. It is the only way to really clean it. also run some Techron fule system treatment with less than 12 gallons of gas per bottle. You should also try some Seafoam through the throttle body and the fuel system. do a search for threads about Seafoam or pm me. Check your IMRC to verify it is working properly. Mine broke at about 75000 miles and There is no CEL for it either. You are running 93-92 octane gas right? If not you should be. even if you drive slow and rev the motor to 4000 rpm before you shift you will get bad mpg. thats all I got for now
