12V Power socket question
How much power can I suck from the 12V outlets with it being in a safe range? I have some things I need to power & the 12V sockets would work great instead of a switch.
They are not that high power, about 5 amps each, but having several things spliced into the same cables, so maybe 15-20 amps total on each outlet. Thanks |
I don't think that those outlets are rated for that much power. You may be better off running another circuit directly off of the battery. Using an amp power kit would be a safe way to bring that type of power in.
10 gauge should be good for 15-20 amps http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LVYne8u...=142PA10&g=711 |
10 amps max

I did the math last night, I'll be just under 10 amps on each 12V outlet. I'm running the front outlets already & it seems fine. The console is next.
If I need it I'll buy something like this.. http://www.able2products.com/Pictures/14_0373.jpg |
I would suspect that the console power outlet is on the same circuit. If this is correct, you will still be limited to 10 amps combined for both outlets.
