1/2 way through winter, should i start the CL?
I have my CL-S in storage (since Dec 5th) due to early winter here in MA. I have it garaged and I just charged up the battery.
Should I start it and let it idle for about 1/2 hour or so or let it sit till mid April?

My car has been parked since November... ran it Christmas Eve for a few runs, parked it, started it up the 2nd week of Jan. and she has been sitting since in the nice warm garage under her car cover...![Wink](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
you have the option of disconnecting the battery and jacking the car up so the tires are not touching the ground if you wish to store it for longer periods than 3 months...

I wasn't sure if starting it would help or not. I don't want to do more harm than good so I figured I'd ask. I know idling is not the best for engines but in this case I think re-coating the engine parts with oil will be helpful. I do have a full tank, with gas preserver, and the tires have been inflated to 40 PSI.
Will a 20 minute idle dry out any moisture that formed during the idle?
It's tough to store this car in the Winter, but I'm glad I do. I can't stand the salt and dirt hitting the car on my commute. To make matters worse, there's little opportunity to wash them thoroughly.
The real test will be how to control my "impulse" once I start it and hear the exhaust roar in my garage. I figure if I get in the car with the cover still on (for the most part), this will keep me off the road.

from what i have read, if you dont drive the car for 30min then dont even bother starting it. I heard idling is bad, better off driving it around the block a few times.
Also make sure there are no animals living under the hood :o

Depreciation on our rides monthly is more than what it costs to store it.

I never park mine for more than a month at a time without driving it for about a day.
Start it.
I can tell you that the longer you let it sit, the longer it'll run like shit. (not bad but definately not what you're used to).

And if you wanted, you could get your hood painted EVERY YEAR and it would still be cheaper then owning and maintaining a second vehicle.

No matter how you look at it, there are going to be some intake valves and some exhaust valves left open for long periods of time here. Moisture will form and condense, corroding the cylinder walls. And through the oil breather (I think we have one), moisture will condense in the oil.
This is not good.
The car should be driven, and driven hard after reaching operating temperature to get this moisture to evaporate out of the engine, and I would say at least 30 minutes like Jesal said
Engines that are not used on a regurlar basis are done more harm than good. Here is a story. This took place about 1990:
While going on with the never ending flying lessons, me and the instructor stopped at an airport and found a fairly good looking 1960 Piper Cherokee, and it was for sale. I looked at the Hobbs meter and it was showing only about 200 hours on it, which is really low time. This would be like having a 1960 mustang car with 2000 miles on it today.
I remarked to Ray "Gosh, this would be a really good buy. Look at that low time!"
Ray said "I wouldn't touch it. The engine hasn't been run enough. That engine will have all kinds of internal corrosion issues."
Sitting outside for 30 years, I had to conclude that he was probably right.
Now go drive that thing.
