'03 pricing on the Altima unchanged...fear of the Accord tho
Gardena, California, Aug. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Nissan Motor Co.
said U.S. prices for most 2003 model Altima sedans will remain
unchanged as Japan's third-biggest automaker seeks to maintain
sales growth in the world's largest market.
Base prices for the 4-cyclinder, 175-horsepower engine Altima
2.5 and 2.5 S models and V-6, 245-horsepower 3.5 SE are unchanged from 2002 at $16,649, $18,499 and $22,649, respectively, the company said in a statement. Only the cost of an Altima 2.5 SL with an automatic transmission has gone up, rising $100, or 0.4 percent, to $22,999, Nissan said.
Tokyo-based Nissan, which makes Altimas at its Smyrna, Tennessee, plant, raised U.S. sales 7.3 percent to 437,907 in the
first seven months of 2002, largely on the strength of products
such as the Altima and Infiniti G35 sport sedan. Altima sales this
year through July surged 38 percent to 119,877.
The new Altimas arrive at dealers this month. Competition in
the midsize sedan market will intensify in September when rival
Honda Motor Co. begins selling a restyled version of its Accord
sedan.

See what they did?
Up the HP by 5HP just so they can claim, "more power than Accord" on the ads and at the dealer. Very smart. And I am sure it cost close to nothing mainly due to the fact that they have 500cc more to paly with. Plus they use the same engine all over the place uptuned. Very nice. Good for them.

Also Nissan announced the change of HP for the 2003 Altima.
245 hp now. They are actually showing how much hp that car really makes obviously now.
Honda came out with 240, they bumped it to 245.

in a USAToday article about the enw Accord, a Honda engineer said that the Accord's 3.0 V6 figures were based on regular unleaded fuel. he said that using premium will bump the Accord's V6 output to 250 and 222 respectively.

Could make sense if there are some new electronic ignition spark etc., trickery that are optimized by higher grade fuel.
