03 gt mustang vs new accord
I was in my friends 2003 Mustang a couple of days ago, and one of the new 6 speed accord coupes pulled up to us on the parkway, they looked at each other and both gunned it from about 35-40 to a little over 100+, and the accord almost hung with him! He had about a car length jump to start in the GT and the accord stayed between 1/2 and 1 car length all the way up. We stopped and talked to him afterwards and his car was stock down to the rubber, he pulled out some 14.5-14.6 quarter mile time slips from the track, good lord those things are fast
I am wondering if modding the mustangs are making them a little slow or something because
Accord = 6 speed stock
Mustang = 5 speed + exhaust + test pipe
Anyone else had any close encounters, sounds like they are almost running stock cl (6 speed) numbers!?

Not sure what you weight, where the cars were in their powerband and how much gas was in both cars, but that's enough to have slowed either cars a bit. If this was the case for the GT, heads up he would have pulled him another 1/2 a car length or so. If the other way around, the Accord would have stayed right beside him.\
And yes, that's quick for a 6cyl. But I still feel good as I'm right there with a heavier TLS and auto to boot and that's with just an icebox. However, I'm assuming there'll be some decent mods for the Accord and then they'll be running low 14 . . ouch. :P

if an' 03 GT 'stang is running mid 14s with exhaust/no-cat then he can't drive... they run EASILY low 14s... the worst I generally see from GTs at the track is 14.3 and 14.2 range. The best being 14.0-14.1s ... that's bone stock too...

the mustang chirped pretty hard in third, and that is where the accord made up about a half car length, and I am 220 and the driver was 175
he beats me gt vs cls all the time, I don't think he was having a bad day
less than a half tank in the mustang, didnt look at the accord

Most likely it was your weight, and the fact that on a roll, the higher TQ car loses some of its advantage, just run me from a stop, then from a roll, entirely different outcome.
From the digs, the stang would have probably pulled a bit harder.

And if the race was from 35-40, did he start in second or third...huge difference there as well.

still a Masshole
The accords are quick but the Stang should still be a bit faster. I think the added weight and starting from a roll is what hurt the stang. I seen a stang run a 14.0 stock when I was running 14.6s-14.8 with my TLS headers and icebox.
I have a race planned with an accord 6-speed this weekend with an intake so it should be good. If he knows what he's doing should be good for a 14.4-14.6. I'm a 14.6 and with more practice and better traction might be able to see a 14.5.

220+175=. 4 of a second.
Now for all the other possbile facotrs: How much gas was in each car, the fact that the stang was a convertible, was the top down?, was traction control on- coulda came on in 3rd if he chirped it hard enough.... you get the point. The reason for the outcome is most likely in my little list.

TQ > MPG
I dont have cats on mine and yeah it smells a little, but who wants to pay lots of $$ for high flow converters.
If the GT didnt have gears thats why the Accord hung around. Tell him to get some 3.73 or 4.10 gears and it'll feel like a new car. He probably did lose some low end tq with the offroad exhaust, but the improvement in top end is worth it. Doing gears will get in into the powerband faster, and will keep it in the powerband after upshifts.
