03 CL's outrunning cops?

Ok I've been searching for a thread similar to this one but nothing. I was talking to my friend's couisin, whose a cop,and asked him if anyone ever outrunn him and he said no.I told him I'd leave him in the dust and he said I'd probly be a few cars ahead of him but he'd be right on my ass and besides if they have to theyll call out the 99 Z28 that patrols the freeway.

Well I was just talking out of my azz I'm not really sure If could beat him to the point where he has to call off the chase and I wouldnt get cought. What do you guyz think?I'm not condoning it I'm just courious,it would be nice to know...

CL-S doesn't seem to have much on the top end. While my old '93 SHO only had 220HP when it was stock, it would have easily kicked the crap outta the CL-S from 60-100mph and pulled hard til you hit the aerodynamic limit at 143mph or so. The CL-S is deathly slow once you get over 100mph. My mom's husband is a cop and they had a chase with a SHO once. He said it would have gotten away had it not crashed. I don't think the CL-S would get away from a Crown Vic in a high speed chase. The 250HP V8 in the Crown Vic should have no problem running the CL-S down.

A stock CL-S 6 would have no problem out running a cruiser.

edit: on another note the 5AT would be ahead aswell until after 3rd gear, the chp cruisers top out at 125 here in California, not too sure about other states.

CHP I spoke with said the toughest cars to catch were S2000s because they just squirmed around and would disappear so fast.

On a straight line it would be very tough to outrun a cop car.

Its tougher than you think, cops have extensive training on their vehicles including pursuit training. Luckily I had the opportunity of trying out that training.

I out-smarted several police a long time ago but only because I was driving the same kind of Japanese econobox that everyone else was and hid in plain view in traffic. The police saw 4 other cars like mine and couldn't determine which exact car they were looking for. But the risks outweigh the possible rewards. Of course, a friend has a different angle where he wired his rear lights with a kill switch so the only lights that stayed on were his headlights meaning that a cop chasing him at night wouldn't see his brake or tail lights and that got him away a few times.

I had a '93 SHO as well, 5spd, and got my doors blown off by a CL-S on the eway which prompted me to get one. So I'd have to disagree that it would kick the crap out of a CL-S from a stop, roll or highway pull. SHO's are very nice up top with the butterfly's opening but CL's have great top ends IMO, I easily reach 120mph in 4th gear pulls. Unless the SHO is modified with a y-pipe, s/c'd, turbo'd or heavily modified in the engine, it wouldn't be a race
On a side note, there was a vid of a SHO running from a cop and the cop ended up running into the SHO after he finally caught up (http://www.metacafe.com/watch/142153...into_cop_cars/). I'm guessing any reasonably "quick" car can outrun the cops, just depends on the driver.

P71's have a V8 and 250hp and RWD:

Cops get special driving training, so my money is on the cops catching you

I think they are speed limited, so you should be able to out run them on the highway, but they'll just have someone intercept you up ahead...

P71's are slow. However once they get moving they are very quick after 80MPH. P71's are geared that way. They also has no governor. They will top out around 140 ish due to drag.
Yes you can outrun one, but as said you will not outrun a radio or chopper.
If your thinking about out running a cop, then I hope you get caught!
I think this a dumb thread

While its easy to race a car and beat it, its rather tough to completely lose a car (i.e.. out of visual range)

That said you might lose one single cop car chasing you if you have enough open highway with very little traffic...

I had a 93 SHO also and it was a relatively quick one (15.1 in the Qtr) but my Cls had a MUCH stronger pull to 100 MPH than the Taurus had. That said I agee with you in that my Acura hit a brick wall at 100 stock. Even with headers, pullies and an intake my wifes 03 G35 coupe pulls much harder after the century mark.

Not at 100 mph, but at 110 CL-TL hits the wall, thats when 3rd gear ends.

I had a high speed race with an old Crown Vic who was being a dic and from 100mph on I barely crawled by it....

The 4th gear on these Auto Cl's handicap a great engine....I had an 03 SHO Auto and I had a quick one and the best I ever got out of it was a 15.1. I used to walk other auto SHO's.
