03 Cl-S only 1750 Miles and a Trunk Rattle

You gotta be kiddding me, Im always blasting the music, but today I had the music off for a second, and on every turn or acceleration I hear this rattling that sounds like its something loose in the trunk. When I go to the dealer, should I just tell them a trunk rattle, or do you guys mabe know if its something different. I'm kinda annoyed. Thanks

Try checking the trunk springs for proper orientation in the slots. My sub box was tall enough to shift under acceleration/braking and move them out of alignment. A piece of non-skid material under the enclosure solved the problem.

No, I did not open the moonroof, but I tried that and heard rattling in my 03 Cl-S? I didnt know it was a problem for the 03 models. Is there a TSB for that, and I think the problem is in the top part of the trunk that you can pick up and close, and i tihnk it might be something lose inside that grey covering, because when I close and open the trunk I hear something moving around sometimes.

Check the spare tire and make sure it's tightened down properly.

Save you the hassle, let the Acura tech worry about it and fix it for you for FREE!

I checked it, its fine. I have a 2,000 miles left till my first oil change. Should I wait till then, and just tell the dealer to find the rattle and fix it?

Here goes

The sunroof rattle still exists on 2003s and it's an easy 30 minute fix at the dealership. I just pulled up without an appointment and they took care of it. Sounds great now. 4800 miles and zero rattles.

I have that trunk/rear shelf rattle on my '03 w/ 1300mi.

How long does it take for most places to fix and do I need to show them anything, like a TSB form or something?

Do you have the factory spoiler? If you do, it could be the cables running along the hinge. As you drive, the plastic around them hit the hinge arm and makes the rattling sound. I have the spoiler on mine, but I don't know if there is any cable that runs down the arm for a trunk w/o spoiler. Check that....

For rattles on a new car that's under warranty all you have to do is let the mechanic or service rep hear it. Then they try to fix it. No TSBs are needed. Remember "Bumper to Bumper" warranty.

All you fellow 2003er's -

I had the same problem with my moonroof, it has not been fixed in the 2003's. Damn thing rattled over the smallest bumps in the road. When I took it in for my 7500 mile service, I told the tech what was happening, and they fixed it. What they do is put some anti-slip tape around the edge of the moonroof opening, and that stops the rattles and squeaks.

Don't know about the trunk rattle, but the tech's should at least look at it. Make sure you take everything out of your trunk first and see if the rattles are still there before taking it to Acura...otherwise they might try to pull the "Shifted contents in trunk - rattle fixed" manuver.

My August '03 build came with several rattles. The nastiest is in the unoccupied passenger seat. There's another one behind the fuse door that should be easy to fix myself. There's a strange thunk in the trunk over bigger bumps, but I haven't been able to trace that one yet.

The teflon tape was already around the sunroof, and I haven't had any rattles there.

I have 01 CL Type S with trunk rattle. Finally figured out one of the trunk lid rubber stops was too tight. Turned stop slightly and rattle ended. There are two stops - one on each side. Having one side too tight allowed trunk lid to vibrate.
