01cls v. 06 maxima

okay so heres the laydown, theres this guy at work who has an 06 maxima stock, and he swears that he will beat me in a race, and ive heard we take maximas, but he is so sure that he wants us to race it and loser fills gas tank, so if im gonna bet 40 dollars, i need to know for sure, should it be from a roll? or from a standstill, and what should i put the cutoff speed at, he says its all up to me that he would beat me no matter what, hes bone stock and i have a CAI, and DCHeaders, should i go through with this or what?

what mods does he have? if none, then, you would be very likely to win from a roll. DO IT!

btw, i've always wanted to run one of those.

Whats the point of the speculation? Just go race him. If you lose because he is a better driver practice and get him later. Or go further in modding your car. Point is what any of us says means nothing beacause we are not driving. I saw a stock Chevy S-10 extreme 5 spd beat a stock Acura NSX on a 1.6 mile road course because the NSX driver thought he was a lot better than he was. You won't ever know until you do it. Just be safe about it especially on the street.

The maxima is bone stock and the CL is modded, he should have no problem with the maxima at all.

[QUOTE=miker_types] but when both are automatic and its as simple as upshifting in SS (both cars), [QUOTE]

Your first mistake, If you use SS from a dig. He is going to jump out on you just based on what you said here. His car does not automatically upshift from 1st to 2nd like ours do, therefore he can run his rpms all the way up while yours shifts at like 5k..

If you want to get the most out of your CL, you have to gate shift from 1st to 2nd or else you are going to lose a lot of power and be playing catchup.

If you go by Car and Driver and Motor Trend the 06 Max is actually slower. I believe it was clocked at 15.0 in the quarter.

With your mods you should be able to pull a 14.5 with no problem. This would equate to an easy kill for your CL.

I raced a late model Maxima over the weekend from 20 mph on and easily pulled several cars on it before the other driver gave up the ghost at 70.

Mag times on most VQ35DE Nissans tend to be slower than real world times. There are a few 6G Maxima drivers on the Maxima forum that have posted mid-low 14s without mods. (One was in a rental 04 Maxima.)

With his mods and competent driving, I think the CL-S should win this one.

awrite guys just to give an update.... this past thursday night, we lined up by the airport here, theres a short stectch that is always empty, this guy doesent want to race me at high speeds, eh i dont blame him, but anyways, we line up from a dig, i start gateshifting, and once im already in second with vtec, im pulilng on him and by the end of this i didnt even leave 3rd, we shutoff at about 85 or so cause of such a short stretch, i ended up putting about 2 and 1/2 cars on him, so i was feeling at the time, he called me up right after with the, "what the hell do you have on that thing, its an 01 isnt it?", it was a good night for the clS, even us 5 spds, well thanks guys for your help, gate shifting helped a lot i think...

CL type S DOES NOT SHIFT A 5K under WOT in SS mode from 1-2......lol it will shift at WOT shiftpoint.

with the slotted gate like ours. you better off leaving in drive versus tring to remember 1-2 = right and 3-5 = up and left...unless he is well practiced at chaning gears manually....

Its not like our cars rev faster than human reflexes. I can't see how it would take someone very long to go all the way up and to the left in the amount of time it takes for the revs to go up to 7k.

Unless he has arthritis, he should be much faster than the revs and not have a problem shifting manually.

Perhaps you are right, but I notice that through gate shifting, I get more power from 1-2 and time was never a factor getting through the gears.
