01 Cls vs. 97-98 e36 m3 four door

Well I havent posted one of these in awhile, and I actually have a worthy race to talk about here in Chucktown. I was riding back to school from Mt. Pleasant over the Cooper River Bridge (aka the shittiest bridge in the world possibly) and im coming up on an e36 m3 4 door. He pulls into the right lane and slows down, well me and my buddy had been out partying earlier so I wasnt really even thinking about going. Well mr. m3 decides to take off, and i slam it and take off in sports shift, and we get up to around 105 and the whole time i kept pulling on him, making up ground and i had two people and a trunk load of stuff( subs, golf clubs, etc) anyways, never passed him as the bridge had traffic ahead, but he definately wasnt expecting me to gain on him like that. Nice to shock an e36 once in a while. He was definately an auto, one passenger.

I don't think so...it was an auto e36 m3, plus he has headers. Should have been closer, but maybe the m3 driver was retarded and didn't take it to redline?

lots of variables there indeed.

I have new found respect for the bmw M, even the 240 HP of the earlier models. I've recently picked up a 00 M roadster, 5 spd, under 3100 lbs. cold air, u/d pullies and it will hand the cls with headers and cold air it's ass pretty solidly from everywhere but about 90-105 where even there it was pulling some. It's clearly not as fast as an LS1, my other comparison.

Twice I've raced the previous gen. manual M3, both times from behind while at a light, and twice I had to shut down at the end of second to keep from rear-ending the beemer. I knew one of the guys and he was pretty pissed so he went out and bought a new M3.

Nah!! More than likely, he said, "oh well. At least I have a BMW". (Typical Bimmer owner reaction. )

good effort, i love those older M's, but if it was a str8 race w/o to many varibles, i think you would win, the auto 4 door m3 isnt that fast
