"Fast" vs "average" CL-S from the factory?

What does that mean?

What is the difference?

Is there an actual problem like with the Mustang Cobras back in '99/2000?

If you have a so-called "average" one, can it be fixed somehow?

Thanks,
-J

The *faster* cars are commonly referred to as "ringers". As on any assembly line, sometimes an engine will get through that has been produced as close to blueprint as possible, meaning that all specs have been fully realized to their greatest pontential. Does this happen often? Sure. Many owners of wide and varied marques have reported running against other stock vehicles and still getting edged out.

Can you fix it? I guess if you wanted to re-build your entire engine from the ground up you could. I'll defer to someone else with greater knowledge to fully qualify my answers.

I think that's a good explanation, droid.

And judging from what happened during the Phoenix meet, either something is wrong with my car or tinman has a "ringer".

Ringers are also known as "Wednesday cars" beacuse they were built in the middle of the week when the workers were neither in a hurry to finish for the week and get to the bar, or hung over from the weekend of partying. Wednesday cars is more commonly used with cars built in the US tho.

So... Ford, Chrysler and GM only build cars on Mondays and Fridays?

Is there any way one could tell on what day a car was built? By the VIN perhaps?

Yeah, the engines are built here, at the same facility they're building the engines they're selling to Gm. Marysville, Ohio, I think.

At least its not like the old days when they would weld bolts, nuts, and loose junk inside bulkheads to drive people nuts. My sister had a Ford Mustang Fastback I used to drive *and* the dealer could never find this noise that sounded like a loose object rattling around the rear of the car near the trunk!

I'd hate to get a "it's Monday, your being layed off, and your house burned down CL-S...

The thing would have Skippy Peanut Butter in the wheel bearings...
