Weak tire sidewall? (nokian wr)

I got a flat recently on my nokian wr. Right side rear. I was told that there was a nail stuck in it. I was also notified that the inside of the sidewall was worn down due to the short drive to the shop. Has anyone have this problem on any tires before?

Like the website advertises optional run flat tires
Run flat property (optional) close

You can drive about 50 kilometres on an empty tyre if the car is fully
loaded. If the car is only carrying the driver, the transition drive
can be up to 150 kilometres. Nokian Tyres recommends a maximum speed
of 80 kilometres per hour. In very slippery conditions the speed
should be kept down to about 50 km/h.

The tires are no more than 5000 miles and have lots of tread to go, but this would be such a loss if i have to replace, it but the shop advised me to replace it.

well if you had a nail in the tire, and drove on it flat....that is what wore down the inside and possibly the outside of the sidewall. IF you had not driving on the tire flat, it might have been saved depending on where the nail is. Run Flat tires are very expensive and heavy. I wouldnt recommend them if you know how to change a tire when needed. If there really is damage to the sidewall I would also definately recommend you change that one.

The tire is running fine, I just figured that the tires were advertised as runflat so they would be able to endure some driving to a shop to avoid the need to switch. The sales rep at nokian said they should be replaced and were run flats. Safe to drive with no load as long as its under 150km.

I'm not sure either, that is why I asked the sales rep but he said they were the site says optional. So i'm guessing they are not.

The Nokian WR is not a runflat tire.

Typically, run flat tires require special wheels and tire pressure sensors.
