Tire width for a 8.5" wide wheel

I am about a set of 8.5" wide wheels in a +53 offset.

I want to have a slightly stretched tire look and the car will be dropped to roughly 1-2 finger gap on coilovers.

I am considering the Kumho SPT's in 225/40/18.

The mfr. recommends 7-8.5" wheel widths for this tire size so my wheel is in the range, but is the max fitment.

Do you all think this would be OK, or should I go for a 235 tire, and if so, why?

Usually if you have an 8" wide tire you go with a 235 and since you have a 8.5" wide wheel you DEF should go with a 235 tire. The 225 even looks slightly stretched on my 7.5" wheel let alone on a 8.5" wheel!!

Its also closer to stock size and more comfortable from what i've read!

Go with the 235. It will look more appropriate on the 8.5 width wheel.

I ended up going with the 225 width as the Tire Rack advisor said it should be OK and will have a slightly stretched look.

Here is a 215 on an 8" wheel.

He also said they will not mount the tire on the wheel for me if it doesnt appear to be an acceptable fit.

The wheels I purchased are the WedsSport TC005 18x8.5 +53.

The next purchases are AMR coilovers + camber kit, JDM Euro-R Lip and then getting 2 dings and a new bumper.

Right before I came home for lunch today someone dinger my car AND scraped the rear bumper while backing out!

Talk about a buzz kill before getting new parts for your car! My 06 was mint just 2 hours ago.

F@CKER!

Wow, the TC-005s have become real popular lately. I guess everyone's going for that TL Type-S look ...
